My Way News - Jackson to make 'The Hobbit' into a trilogy
I am pleased by this.

Re: The Hobbit to be a trilogy - expound on additional stories of Bilbo Baggins' Life
I don't know how the Hobbit could be more than ONE movie. It was originally geared more towards a younger audience than LotR was... It's not a long or complicated book...
And if they are going to fill the extra time with the appendices or from the Silmarillion then I really really could care less. The Silmarillion was boring as hell.
I'm looking forward to it. I even could deal with it being a two movie deal even though I don't think the source warrants it. But a third movie just seems like a money grab.

Different strokes - cause I loved the Silmarillion. \o/ But there's a lot of additional Middle Earth goodness taking place in and around that same time frame. Given that Jackson did very well by the LotR books, I am willing to see what kind of treatment he gives The Hobbit and related tales.

I was thinking the same things. There are lots of events that happen off-screen in the book. If they want to pad out the story by including all of them in the movie then it'll be longer for sure.
The trailers seem to indicate that the movie(s) will have the same feel as the LoTR movies, and that's tough for a purist. The Hobbit in book form was, as Kanati says, a light-hearted adventure tale.
So it looks like I didn't really have anything to add to this thread.
And I knew that, but it's my in to ask (after all this time): "Alundil" ... that's Westernesse, right?
