Re: Looking for a 1911, which one should I get?
I am a fan of the Wilson or Kimber models if you can afford them they are super nice. The biggest thing is to go to a shop that rents them and try them out. Find what fits in your hand most comfortably and what is the most pleasant for you to shoot. I have shot a LOT of 1911s and they are not all the same. Its a big bullet with considerable recoil (I was used to 9mm) so you want to make sure its comfortable. What sold me on the Wilson and Kimber models are the triggers...they are SO smooth to pull.

If I was spending the money in that range it would be on a Dan Wesson, STI, or a Springfield Armory in that order of preference. I've handled all three (though shot none) and found that in years past STI and Dan Wesson had more features I liked in the price range.
If I was buying a 1911 it would be a fun gun though, so i'd be more likely to end up with a Rock island Armory for ~$400 and take it to the range and care less about doodads and options. If I wanted something in .45 for personal/serious use i'd be getting something with a double stacked magazine and as many bullets as I could squeeze in.~The optimist proclaims we live in the best of all worlds. I just say "I like cookies!" and leave it at that.~

Re: Looking for a 1911, which one should I get?
Went and took a CCDW class today with my 9mm xdm. Class was extremely easy, tests were extremely easy. The what seemed like 2 hour long video we had to watch just about put everyone to sleep. Now just have to wait about 6 weeks for my CCDW certificate to come back so I can take it to the sheriffs office so I can then wait another 4-6 weeks to get my actual permit.
Oh, and I think I figured out what 1911 I want to get. Looking to get a Kimber Pro Carry 2 .45acp.

You will love that pistol. Grats on the CCW. I found the class incredibly easy back in the day when I took it. You only had to shoot inside the silhouette 7 of 10 rounds at 15 and then 30 feet. Really? I did smiley faces. If you want more of a challenge while continuing your CCW education take a tactical shoot/don't shoot class. Much harder and I learned a lot from the ones I took. Its also helpful because it forces you to think about situations that you could possibly end up in in real life and the instructor talks about the laws in your state with regards to those different scenarios. Trust me, you don't want to have to figure out if something is a justified shooting after the fact. Take the time and learn about the possibilities ahead of time and prepare accordingly.

Re: Looking for a 1911, which one should I get?
I took it at Buds Gun Warehouse here in Lexington with Buds son Marty. Great instructor, he had a lot of suggestions for us which definitely made you think outside the box so to speak. We had to shoot 11/20 inside the silhouette at 7 yards. Of course all of mine were slightly high but right on the chest. Buds also has Velocity training classes they call it. Actual scenario and more safe gun handling/shooting techniques. I definitely want to take a couple of those some time.
We had to watch a video, about 2 hours long stating you can do this and this in this scenario but you can't do this and that. You can get charged with this in this scenario, but not charged in that scenario, and I swear the same things were repeated 4 or 5 times. Is this justified, is it not justified. In the video they read to us all the Laws, every section, every sub-section, every 1), 2), 3), a), b), c), of every damn law about guns and or carrying guns. I didn't think it would ever end. Good information of course, but damn.....
I live in KY, my parents live in WI, and of course the state in between Illinois, has extremely strict gun laws and does not recognize Kentucky's conceal carry permit. Guess my gun will be riding in the trunk on my visits up north.
