Be in NYC for 12 hours next month...

I have an overseas business trip in November. On my way back I'll have a 12 hour layover in NYC (JFK International). What should I (or CAN I, with such short time) see/do?

Walker, how close are you to the city? Looking at it on Google maps from where I think I remember you telling me you lived, looks like a ~6 hour drive. That accurate?

On a good day, JFK is 30 minutes from most places in Manhattan. On a bad day, it can be an hour. Taxi one way will be about $50 plus tolls and tip. Even with bad traffic, and time wasted going back through security, you'll still have at least 9 hours. You can have a lot of fun in that time.
