Te'o's dead girlfriend a hoax?

I don't really follow college football, so I'd never heard of Te'o's girlfriend or anything about that before. Looking into various articles about it though, and what was said about the "relationship", I can't really think of a scenario where he couldn't have known that the whole thing was a hoax.

I definitely think involvement in something like this is going to hurt his draft status. I don't know by how much, but it's going to do some damage. People picking in the upper parts of the 1st round generally want as few variables as possible, and someone messed up in the head enough to do something like this comes with more than a few mental red flags.

As for his draft status Todd McShay of ESPN said based on talent alone he is probably a second or third rounder, but based on heart, leadership, and other intangibles he could be a top 10 pick. That being said if it comes out that he was involved in the whole thing then he could drop like a rock.
