Im looking for tips. I going to buy a bit of paint and test paint this pos boat i have before i paint my car. The sun beat the crap out the upper half of the passenger door but im going to paint the whole thing so any tips would be useful seeing as my body experience is limited to replace item or patch bullet hole.

This basically is the key, The way you prepare it will determine basically how good it comes out and lasts. I dont personally paint cars either but my father was in the business for years and i used to help him.

It sucks painting in Florida if you don't have a shop. You might be able to get away with it now as the humidity isn't bad, but it is tough to paint outdoors while avoiding running/dripping. That is pretty much why I had my PC painted by my friend that has a shop for painting motorcycle parts. It was July, damn near 100 degrees, and that paint wouldnt stick for shit. Hell, even the primer didn't want to hang on.

If you go in light coats, it might eventually work for you, but the problem is letting it dry. Since it is Florida, that paint has to cure and dry for a few days before it so good to go. If you are doing it outside, you will probably end up with bugs and dirt getting on it, no matter how well you "cover" it.

Also, do you already have the sprayer? Knowing you, I am sure you have the compressor, but a good spray gun isn't cheap. I got mine off of Craigslist and it worked great. I ended up re-selling it for more than I paid for it.

another tip: put extra layers of clear coat and then wetsand them smooth. If your prep work is great you will have that super mirror finish that rocks
