    Re: Oz...another Disney flop

I haven't seen this yet. TBH I wasn't expecting a lot. Other than "it looks cool" and the casting sounded good in the trailers that was about it. I doubted that I would even go see it to begin with as the classic is "What it is" to me. I don't need sequels/prequels etc etc and I'm not generally a fan of "reboots" especially when they weren't needed (e.g. Batman - needed a reboot because the last ones blew chunks, Oz - didn't need one, Star Wars - might need a reboot as the last ones blew chunks you get the idea).

Shame that it's not as good as everyone would have wanted it to be. Honestly.

But if the "user reviews" are as positive as they are (above 70 on RT, 7/10 on IMDB etc) then they're obviously doing something acceptable at the very least. Is it the classic? For those of us who remember the classic no. But for those who never saw it then perhaps so.

As for Disney movies and the "Mouse-ification" of movies.....meh...as I mentioned in another thread; They have done well the Marvel franchise (either because they know what they're doing, or because they're rather hands off). So I'm not worried about Star Wars (I don't think it could eclipse Jar Jar in terms of being bad).

I submit this, https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/jack_the_giant_slayer/, as a movie that didn't need to be made (and shouldn't have been judging by it's reception). Co-worker of mine took his son to see it last weekend....

Thumbs down from him and his 8yo.

Oz is a kids movie for sure. I'd tell my Aunt to take her little girls to see it, but not other people.Which is sad cause the book series is great, and there's a lot of stories in them that should be told via movies.

And yea I wasn't any where close to watching Jack. That was...no...no...

There were many moments where I was expecting something exciting to happen, but instead faced with disappointment. Like many before me have said there was just no meat of the story. It was just mindless conversation and pretty scenery. The wicked witch had so much potential, but imo she was boring. Definitely not has scary as the original wicked witch, which is sad as hell. Oh well...such is our society now. We see these kind of cheap tricks in every industy nowadays. Everything is half ass...for the most part.

Isn't J.J. Abrams directing the new Star Wars? That gives me a little hope.
