This is what i get for helping family. I wear a respirator when doing cuts because of the dust from the ones where a wet saw is not possible. Of course i saved those for last. I even bought a new one because mine is about 5 years old. Of course the new one fails which i did not know at the time. The plastic flapper in the front stayed open and now i have a massive sinus infection because stone dust is not good for you. If that isnt a fucking clue to stop helping family i have no idea what is.

This fuckin sucks. How in the hell can a few glands create this much snot? This is bullshit.

Re: Family is a pain in the ass.

My dad has enjoyed helping family for years. And, for a while, since I've been 16, I have too. But here lately, the true side has become more and more obvious. Everyone just uses us, never pays us, expects us to do shit, and even worse, we've financially helped these people many times. I've gone to help them at times and move boxes and shit and not a single finger was lifted to help. Then, when you say no, you best believe you will be the first person to be talked bad about.

    Fuck that noise.

I'm done helping family and friends. You need help moving your couch? Sorry, my back hurts. Need help pulling your car? Sorry, I can't drive a trailer. Need help cleaning that house? Sorry, I'm sick and can't be around the chemicals. I'm done with it. I've become Mr. Scrooge.
    Speed. I am speed.

You guys are speaking my language I work for the central IT department at my university until I graduate. I've gone through incredible difficulty keeping that a secret from my friends and family. It's a secret I hope o can keep up as long as possible. I just play dumb when people ask me questions even though I do that crap on a daily basis lol

I help family all the time, mainly because many of my family members ar struggling financially and I have been blessed in being more fortunate. It makes me feel good, but sometimes I kick and scream the whole time.

Re: Family is a pain in the ass.

I help my parents and sister...that's it. My dad also works in IT(I was technically his boss at one point before I moved on), so if I do help them out there are a few benefits. Mainly that he knows as much or more than me about PCs so there is no hand holding, and two, that if they are coming to me with a problem, it's actually a fairly serious/difficult problem, or something that is fun to try and figure out/make work. Grand Parents will get help if they are visiting..which is basically one week every 2 years.

Anyone else can find another stooge. I'll give links and advice on where to go to find your own solution. I will not spend hours troubleshooting it, when most likely I'm going to be googling the problem while I'm on the phone with you anyways. If it's that important they will either find somebody local or take it to the shop.

People seem to think they are too good to take their computer to the shop because "you're an IT guy, right?" Just doesn't make sense to me. I have limited knowledge of cars...so when mine breaks and some quick research(to include asking knowledgeable friends for opinions and advice) and a trip to an auto parts store can't fix it...I take it to professionals. I don't go to my "car guy" friends and ask them to fix my car. I don't get why people think PCs are any different in that regard...they are very complex systems that require quite a bit of foundation and knowledge to effectively troubleshoot(without guides). If you don't have that knowledge, then pay somebody that does.

One of the benefits of being 800 miles from family...I don't get bugged with stuff like that very often.

You say that, but the time will come when you realize that I'm right.
