    Re: Medical case studies?

I know some of you guys are in the field so i'll ask here versus driving over to ask. That is unless no one knows the answer. Can a nerve test study cause pain to be increased? I ask that because as they found out i have nerve damage and ill be damned if my leg hasn't hurt more since the test was run. I would have done the test even knowing that would be the outcome but im curious if the increase is related to the test or if the timing was just right for whatever happened to increase it.

Can't rule out the placebo effect, either. The mind is a wicked thing. Why don't you ask the center that did the test?

I agree with your first statement and its exactly why i wanted to know if it was possible. I was trying to avoid going over there and his people aren't very helpful on the phone. I ended up having to go over there anyway so i got my answer. Yes if you have nerve damage the test can make it worse. You just have to be in that lucky group it effects in that manner. In other words my luck hold true yet again.

I don't know about compensation for the studies, but there can be some good things from them. In 2002, we lost our daughter to a very rare, and at the time, undetectable and untreatable birth defect. They asked our permission to do an autopsy and study her, which we granted. A few years later, we learned that in large part to what they learned in our case, there is now about a 50/50 chance for survival of the defect. So now some families won't have to go through what we went through and that was somewhat comforting.
