05-17-13, 10:42 PM #1Windows 8 Phones
Curious if anyone out there has one and what they think of it? Been looking at possibly getting one but curious to hear thoughts of people who have had one for a couple months etc. Since press reviews are only so much (and lets be honest, you never know how much is true), and 15-30min at a store playing with it doesn't tell a whole lot.
Rambled on, but basically curious if it is worth looking at a W8 Phone or not?

Thanks all, is there anything annoying or particularly bad/don't like (besides the lack of apps)?
Was curious as Verizon got its version of the 920 (The 928) just recently and the price is pretty damn good, so seriously looking at possibly switching over to WP8.

Re: Windows 8 Phones
I've heard good things about the 928. I would recommend going with a Lumia just because Nokia has the best costumer service, and the devices are really well made with some good specs. I've heard stories of Nokia sending out free accessories to people that had issues with their devices, and that they will do what they can to make sure you get as good of an experience as you can.
As far as apps go, it's not nearly as bad as everyone thinks. For apps(not games) if there's one you use for your device now, there will be a similar one on the marketplace. In fact there are help things you can find for if your coming from a different OS that will give you recommendations for certain apps. We have a facebook app, instagram, twitter, etc.(along with all of the OS integration for twitter and facebook). Games on the other hand is kind of a different story, but that's gunna happen when the WP is still only 3-4% of all smart phones. There is Angry Birds, temple run, and some of the top ones, but we do lag behind a bit with newer releases.
As far as annoyances go, I've only had two major problems with my phone and the OS. My call quality has gotten kinda shitty cause I've got junk in my mic holes(since I don't use a case cause my phone is pretty to look at) and its really hard to clean that out cause you have to take the phone apart. If I had a case this most likely wouldn't even be an issue. There are some minor OS stuff that is a bit irritating(wireless syncing isn't fully there, unless you get the music pass, etc.) but most of it is gunna be fix in the next update which is coming out around the Win Blue update for WIn8 comes out.Last edited by Adretheon; 05-18-13 at 04:03 PM.

Re: Windows 8 Phones
I've had a WP7 for a couple years, it was alright but had a lot of bugs that slowly got updated and patched. When the Nokia Lumia 920 came out I got that the first day it was available and received a free wireless charging plate. My brother and I have one and have not had any problems with it. Nokia makes great phones. I have dropped the thing many times and went oh shit, that probably broke something, but it hasn't. There was a problem with making calls, that the sensor on the front screen wasn't able to sense you properly so the screen would go blank and you couldn't tap end call, or hit speaker, or dial any numbers. That was a problem for a little bit but got patched rather quickly. It takes great photos, the lens is actually floating on springs so its very hard to ruin. The hd video capabilities is quite impressive. I live in central KY and we recently got LTE on my phone through at&t, so, it's quite fast compared to eveyone elses phone at my workplace. I don't really use many apps out of the ordinary but they are all there, I agree with Adre, they lack a lot of games, but the ones they do have are visually really nice.
The only thing I would like is a little better sound quality from the speakers but other than that. Its been a great phone, and can't wait for the next big update.

Thanks again, think I'm going to go for the 928, give something new a try (liked it in store slightly more). Good to hear on the durability front, don't go trying to break phones but my current one (a Motorola) had some err...nice drops and come ot of everything fine but been worried the next phone might not be so forgiving (hell, the only thing that did any damage to my current one was when it got stuck under some springs and the back got a nice scratch).
As long as there are apps to do most common stuff, not too bothered if its smaller (especially on games, got a computer for gaming. Cell phone games are just for wasting time while waiting around somewhere). Does the marketplace have some good news aggregator? Be the biggest thing I'd miss from my android.

Re: Windows 8 Phones
I don't know if the 928 is built the same way but the 920's case is colored all the way through so you can't just scratch the paint off the surface. It makes scratches and some dents 100% less noticeable. I assume the 928 is built in a similar fashion.
News for marketplace stuff? Or news in general? There's plenty of news stuff on there, but for marketplace news(releases and stuff like that) I just go to wpcentral.com. That's where I've been gettng my updates on that kind of stuff as well as news about new features and update release notes etc.(they also have a pretty nice phone app)
All in all I think you'll be pleased with it. Nokia makes a solid product. The OS does some neat things with facebook integration, lockscreen information, voice commands, and making sure everything fits well together so it is easy to follow. It's not without its faults though, but I'm sure most of them will be updated like Senses said.

So far liking the Windows Phone 8, hell even IE (dear god, never thought I'd say that). Haven't gone too much into adding all sorts of home screen stuff, but its been smooth and everything works well so far. The app market is a bit ehhh, even some of the big name apps are rated shitty, but found enough to not be overly bothered (and found wordament, loveeeee it). Need Yelp app to not supposedly suck though damnit!
