300 dollars magically disappears from your bank account..
Yeah, just got paid today...put 300 of the 450 into my bank account, and then went to Wendy's to grab a nice old JR. Bacon cheeseburger. Paid for the burger just fine with my debit card, and tonight I try and buy Arma 3, and to my surprise, I have little to no money in my bank account. I even tried buying a $0.99 game, just to see if I had that much in my account, still got declined. What the HELL happened to all my money!? I can't go look online or anything because it's way after hours, and I forgot my PIN number. Now I have to wait until tomorrow to even find out the slightest as to what is happening. FML.
$300.00 might not seem like a ton to you fellas, but I only get a good 400-500 every two weeks..and when you're in highschool, and you work your ass off, get paid, and lose a shit ton of it for no reason. Sucks mad dick. FUCK.

Re: 300 dollars magically disappears from your bank account..
Some banks have a hold on deposited funds. They may allow temporary access to some of the funds but not the full amount till it clears. The hold amount depends on the size of the check. Hope this is the issue with yours.
Make sure you gain online access to your account and check daily. Banks are forever inventing new fees to make money in this new heavily regulated economy. BOA has a maintenance fee of $9 if your balance is below $1k. Also if you overdraft by a few pennies you have only a few days to clear your account before they charge you a $32 overdraft fee.
Good lesson to learn early on, stay on top of your finances.

I cant stress this enough. As one who rides the razors edge, i check my balance daily at the very least. At least you have them shut the card down when you hit your limit. My bank defaulted to overdraft protection that the provide for a fee of 32 bucks a pop, lets just say its no fun finding out you just bought a 34 dollar coffee.

Hocus financial advice FTW. Was going to mention the possible deposit/withdrawal delay
Also....gain access to your account online. Check it regularly (at least daily in this day and age). Most online banking portals can also setup alerts based on a number or criteria (withdrawals over a specified amount, balances below specific amount, etc etc). Use them.

If possible, enroll in direct deposit. You'll have instant access to funds since its a wire or ach, and it'll save you the trip. When I was young I always felt the need to hold the check in my hand, but now that I'm older an lazier I'd rather have one less thing to do lol.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll definitely use that. What happened was that I tried to buy something off Steam, and since I bought something else from somewhere in Utah the same day, it thought someone was using my number in 2 different locations at once. Because of this, it automatically locked me from using my card, and declined any purchase I tried to make. It just scared me because I've never had it lock on me before, and I've done many purchases like that online before. Thank goodness I'm in the clear though!!

Also some banks rank deposits/withdrawls in order of ammount.
Day
$5.oo coffee at starbucks at 10am, $15 lunch at 2pm, 3pm $60 for amusement park tickets $45 for beer at 7pm.
In actuality, the $60 hit the account first, then the $45, then the $15, and overdraft on the $5 for $45.00. Instead of hoping the overdraft would be on the $45 it hits on the $5.00.
Screw banks, carry cash, not only do you look like a balla, but you save on fees, and wait staff love your tips when they come in Cash.Last edited by SmokenScion; 05-23-13 at 04:30 PM.
