Re: Stupid people in this stupid economy, jobs and school
I'm debating to work here or quit.
I'm just afraid I won't get a job.

Re: Stupid people in this stupid economy, jobs and school
Glad i read on before i said something, Cause i dont have my degree either but im more then entitled to my current salary, With the rest of your points though, Ive seen it where people who have the degree but suck at the thought of work get management positions over me (I cant say much now because im a noobie at my current job) But my last job? Forget about it. i worked my ass off for 4years, No degree? No management. Walk in the door with your paper but cant handle a 12hr day without crying like a 2 year old? Heres your management position. The industry is a joke right now with the way they hire people, "sometimes you gotta drink the coolaide if you wanna go anywhere in life" Blow me, Ill get to where i want to be with hard work and dedication, Not sucking my managers dick because thats what he wants. Id rather be happy making what i make now then suck up to someone to make more and be his little bitch.

In the business/finance world you either need a degree or you would have needed to work your ass off to get to a decent position in a company. Of course every situation is different and some companies work differently than others, but for the most part if you don't have a degree and want a finance job in downtown Chicago you better have some god damn good experience or you are a natural and self-taught.
My Mom went to University of Illinois Urbana for 2 years, dropped out and never ended up finishing college. (This was back in the 70s or early 80s) Don't know exactly how she got her first job, but I know it was her and another lady who ran the business by themselves. (Insurance and newsletters) She ended up having to find another job after the owner of the business died and then the shitty economy hit and both my mom and dad lost their jobs within the same week.
Luckily my mom was able to find an even better job working downtown for a Insurance company, but the only reason she got it was because she had solid experience in the business. Though she comes home every day frustrated as hell because she is stuck in the corporate ladder. People in their 20s and 30s are making more then her and they are also the ones getting the promotions. Could age maybe play a factor into this? Yes, but it's not the sole reason she is being overlooked. She has no college degree.
Or take my brother who works for a trading firm in downtown Chicago, Eagle Seven Trading. It's a small firm but that doesn't stop the CEO from being worth 25-30 million. Could you get a job at Eagle Seven without a high end degree from a prestigious university? Highly doubt it.
In order to make money, you need to be willing to invest money. Yes, there are ways to be successful and not have a degree. My mom is the perfect example. But for most there is a plateau effect down the road. I know DG loves to argue semantics so ofcourse I will agree there are exceptions and people who become self proclaim millionaires just from hard work and ethics. But for the average person who has no special talents you need a degree.
No one here can argue that a degree is a bad thing. You will find a job if you look hard and long enough. That doesn't mean it will be in the same town, city, state. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices. Unless there is some special circumstance someone without a degree will get passed up for someone with a degree.
Fyi I'm the bad egg of the family. Both my older brothers have degrees and successful careers in finance. I flunked out of my first university because Calculus and Accounting kicked my ass. Got my associates degree, which is better then nothing, and now I'm working on my Bachelors for Computer Networking at DeVry University. My goal is to work in the IT department of a company in downtown Chicago. I have no experience in the field so a degree is #1 priority.Last edited by Mr_Blonde_OPS; 07-06-13 at 05:20 PM.

Idk, i learned everything i know by doing and busting my ass. I even had a scholarship to college and after i used the money decided never to go back, Ive made out alright without a degree.

Re: Stupid people in this stupid economy, jobs and school
With my CJ degree and doing PI work, I made $75/hr doing surveillance and shit for lawyers and attorneys. Only thing is, you have to have cases and clients coming in... or else you make shit.
So now I do PI stuff and I work at a Honda/Nissan dealership... You can make a lot of money selling cars, trust me. We have salesmen making $100,000+/year... Now, that's if you're a good salesmen. The average is about $45,000/year. Nothing like pocketing $1,500 on 1 car deal (most people can sell 2-3 cars a day - do the math). Last month, there was a new guy who pulled in $14K... in ONE month.Last edited by BigHub; 07-06-13 at 08:43 PM.

Well I'm a sales manager at Sprint. I have 2 years sales experience.
But I heard you do 6 days a week, 10 hours a day?
