Re: What are you reading? (The Book Topic)
So I meant to post back after finishing this book and had forgotten to do so.
First off: I enjoyed it.
Second: It was refreshingly different than what I expected. It is fiction and even 'science-y' in the sense that it deals with a typical science fiction issue; namely that of some kind of catastrophe that lays low almost the entire human population.
That is about the extent of the science part of the fiction though, as the real story is told from the perspective of one man struggling with the changes wrought on his life. The closest I can describe it is akin to reading the protagonist's constant stream of consciousness along with his narration of the events unfolding.
Quite an interesting literary angle.
I'd recommend this to anyone who likes fiction, survival stories and who aren't put off by an unusual delivery.
I'm now reading the Leviathon Wakes book. I listed it as a recommendation on an earlier post in this thread as my brother spoke very highly of it. I'm about 150 pages in and find it difficult to put down. It's turning into a very enjoyable space opera.

Over the holidays I read the following by Dani Kollin & Eytan Kollin:
The Unincorporated Man
The Unincorporated War
The Unincorporated Woman
...and now I am waiting on The Unincorporated Future to arrive. this is an awesome series to read if you are a hardcore SCI-FI fan.. reminds me of Robert Heinlein..
..while I am waiting I am reading The Prefect by Alastair Reynolds who is my FAVORITE SCI-FI author at the moment... this is the 5th book in the Revelation Space series.. more book in the series.. all must reads:
Revelation Space
Chasm City
Redemption Ark
Absolution Gap
Century Rain
Pushing Ice
The Prefect
A excellent SCI-FI series I read last Summer was The Saga of the Seven Suns by Kevin J. Anderson. Its a 7 volume book series.. about 4000+ pages total.. but its a MUST read if you like Mass Effect type stories.. but the bad guys in this book make the Reapers look like kid toys...Last edited by shatter99; 01-08-14 at 07:50 PM.

Re: What are you reading? (The Book Topic)
Forgot to give an update on this. This book...I really loved. Going to get the other two in the trilogy this week probably. All in all, it took me about two weeks to finish reading this book (though I could have easily done it in a single sitting had time allowed).
For those interested - here are the links to the books on Amazon:
Leviathon Wakes
Caliban's War
Abaddon's Gate
Once I completed the first one I started reading another Brandon Sanderson book called the Alloy of Law. Almost done with this one as well. I really enjoy the world he's created in the Mistborn trilogy and this story takes well after the events in the Mistborn Trilogy itself. It's also a very quick read.
