As others have said, they aren't cheap; however, you won't need to replace one - ever -unless you knock it over. What I like about them is the ability to cook at very low temps for long, long periods of time without having to add more lump. If you want to cook at high temps - no problem either. It is a very versatile cooker. Holds pretty much any temp without need to jack with it all the time.

Sometimes you will see where people have to add water to the cook when smoking meats. The advantage of a ceramic cooker is the ability to retain moisture and I have yet to add water to my cooks. I tell you, you can cook a chicken and the amount of juices that run when you go to cut one up. Damn its good.

Egg comes in sizes from what looks like a small keg to XL. We have the large. Plenty big for my family.

There are some other ceramic cookers on the market now that I hear are good and don't cost quite as much.
