Thread: Winter Olympics 2014

Enough of the fucking ice dancing bullshit. If there are brakes on the front of your skates......gtfo, we've seen more than enough.

If we must have figure skating, they could at least make it interesting. Make them an obstacle course with flaming hoops. Maybe combine them with the Biathalon, and the skiiers can shoot pellet guns at the figure skaters. Something.....anything would be better.

And if I hear Jonny Wier (or wtf ever) talk of the majesty, pageantry, or artistry of ice dance one more time, I will personally make him cry so hard his mascara will run.

Back to the danger sports! Luge....Skeleton....Ski Jumping.....bobsled....Alpine Skiing.....snowboarding.....HOCKEY (the only true sport). These are what make the Winter Olympics. Sports like Curling and Speed Skating are just awesome sprinkles on top.

Man, Women's Hockey has sure come a long way. They are starting to be completely watchable. It's like watching a really good high school game.

It's time to lose the no checking rule, though. They really need to drop that bs. These ladies are skating and shooting more like the men every year, and it's time to let them hit.

sigh it still sucks. too slow and too boring. its maybe like watching a bantam game. still say the boys AA champ could beat the womens national team

They just smoked the Swiss 9-0. Three goals in a 55 second stretch in the first period....an Olympic record.

Still....it would be highly watchable if they let them hit. Having checking be a penalty in Hockey is blasphemous.

During the transition from ringette to womens hockey (at least in the state of MN) it was considered unladylike like by usa hockey and the mn hockey directors for women to check. Hence no checking in womens hockey.

It made sense at first, but times have changed. Now girls are growing up playing hockey. They are learning the fundamentals at the same age as the boys (Mighty Mites, Squirts, Pee Wees, and Bantams), and their development is showing. Back in the early days, it was mostly girls who grew up toeing around on figure skates and were just handed a stick. If they had allowed hitting back then, there would have been some injuries. Those days are over, and it's time for them to move on. They have developed faster than their sport.

Curling is fun to watch, but Hockey pwns all.....it's like soccer except with balance, hand/eye coordination, testosterone, and pain tolerance.

The men take the ice tomorrow. Watching these guys play on a real sheet of ice (not an NHL Bar Box) will be incredible, as usual. It's the way the game is meant to be played. Open, fast, and hard hitting.
