Fixed it to be correct. Soccer players have plenty of pain tolerance by the way, a lot of "injuries," are just fake to waste time or con the ref. If refs stop calling everything as fouls (or book divers), and add time for every bastard rolling around, they'll stop doing it.

Re: Winter Olympics 2014
You accidentally left out the hand/eye coordination and the balance. Anyone with working legs can run around on the grass. Lace up some skates, and you will soon see a big difference between those with strong ankles and those who's nervous (usually single) mothers pushed them towards soccer. Then we can talk about stick handling (if I'm not mistaken, soccer pretends that we have no arms) and a frozen puck flying around at 100+ mph. It's more than just the hitting. Soccer players could never match up to hockey players in terms of toughness, speed, or agility.....not even close.
Soccer players get lovely little cards when naughtyness erupts.
Hockey players get stitches, and keep playing.

They have goalkeepers in soccer, which requires hand/eye coordination (without it, good luck making many saves), plus I could argue it is also needed to not go arms flailing everywhere and give up pens/free kicks (not to mention collect quite a few cards). Anyone might, but it still (especially at top levels) requires balance, if soccer didn't then it'd be players falling over everytime they made a cut or took a wrong step, etc.
Hockey players get taken off the ice for a period of time (or an entire game) when naughtyness erupts. Soccer players stay on unless it was reckless or dangerous action, denies a clear goal scoring opportunity, or behaves unsporting (e.g. headbutts, kicks out, talks shit at the ref way too long and way too often).

Re: Winter Olympics 2014
^ Weak.
You just can't compare the hand/eye coordination of hockey to a soccer player not letting his arms get hit with a ball. And comparing the balance it takes to perform on skates versus not falling over wearing cleats on grass is laughable, except that you were actually being serious.
LOL.

Re: Winter Olympics 2014
It doesn't when you are comparing it to hockey. Every player on the team has a stick in their hands, and has to be good at using it to move the puck. Not just one guy who has to block a relatively slow moving ball that is a foot in diameter. A puck is only about 3 inches wide, and will hit speeds over 100mph, while a soccer ball is about a foot wide, and likely won't ever see 50mph.
And you just can't, with a straight face, compare the balence it takes to perform on skates at over 30mph to running around on flat grass with spikey shoes.

And today will see what will likely be the toughest game for our US Ladies. They collide with Team Canada (boo!!! ) in what should be a really good game. Probably the two best women's teams on the planet, and a rematch from the Vancuver Gold Medal game.

That says soccer doesn't require balance or hand/eye coordination, and that soccer players can't handle pain/are wusses. None of which is true. Comparing the two is stupid since they are completely different (thus things like "Hockey players are faster, more agile, etc." are also stupid) sports. Thus moving the goalposts, it went from "soccer doesn't have balance, hand/eye coordination, etc.," to "Well compared to hockey..."

Re: Winter Olympics 2014
A baby born without any arms still has the potential to be the best Soccer player ever. That same kid couldn't even play hockey, much less excel to the elite.
Comparing the hand/eye coordination of stickhandling to a sport that outlaws the use of hands and arms to most of the players on the field is ridiculous. Then comparing the balance it takes to perform (including taking hits) on 1/16th inch wide blades to guys wearing spikey shoes on grass is just over the top.
The hand/eye coordination required for soccer is even less than chess, since the chess player is required to move their pieces by hand.
As for toughness.....there is no comparasin. That isn't even debatable. On a toughness level, I would put soccer somewhere in the same league as the NBA or MLB. Not anywhere near the NHL or NFL.
