I'm not a ManU fan, but when the rumors started swirling yesterday, I was somewhat surprised. When the official announcement was made, I was in disbelief. I would have figured they would have at least given him the summer transfer window and the start of next season before axing him. In reality if they were going to get rid of him, they should have either done so earlier, or waited until next season. Oh well. This just means the reds will probably suck again next year as the new coach puts his system in place and tweaks the roster to meet his systems' need.

I'm in awe as well. Looks like Giggs is stepping up in the meantime. I'm very interested to see how he does at the helm as he knows the team better than anyone. Having personally shared the pitch with the lads will give him a better understanding of his lineup than Moyes had.

Oh snap, some reports are cropping up saying Louis van Gaal is the favoured replacement. While Dutch, German, and Spanish football are all a bit different, he may do well with united. The Dutch play fast football, Bayern has the stability and barca has the legacy. With all three of those teams under his belt I'd say he has quite the resume.

Objectively, I think it is a good move. Bit late in the season (at this point mine as well let him flame out and dump at the end of the season?) but meh. Fandom wise I wish they'd kept him so he could keep sinking Man United, even if it left Chelsea as the only villain (I can't hate Liverpool or Man City, at least since Mancini left City anyways. And being hard on Tottenham just feels like beating up a child.) .
Heard Van Gaal is a bit of a nutter, and heard he's good at holding grudges and pissing people off in the dressing room. Not sure how well that'd go, maybe work short term? It seems the common expectation is Klopp won't leave (he should wait for the Arsenal job anyways =p). Simeone might be okay, done very well at At. Madrid it seems and apparently his teams play is a bit English (?). Though he hasn't had years of success, so they may want to avoid him after the Moyes debacle (Simeone had more success then Moyes but still). Antonio Conte could be interesting if he'd leave Juve,, though might be too defensive.

Re: Manchester United fires manager David Moyes
United waited until they could not qualify for the champions league because of the clause in Moyes' contract that reduces his compensation to one years salary in such an event. If they had fired him a month ago or earlier they would have had to pay him 5 years salary which amounts to about 250 million pounds. So with no top class manager to step in on short notice, that was the sound financial decision. And they fired him now so he wouldn't waste any more time chasing players the next manager might not want. I think the timing is perfect, so long as they get moving with recruiting somone. United does need a good transferwindow.
As for Moyes qualities as a manager, he is a dinosaur. Ferguson knew his own limitations (but apparently not Moyes' limitations), and hired staff to compensate. Moyes fired key staff when he joined, among them the fitness coach who kept Van Persie injury free and in pretty much top condition the seasons before. As a result, key players have been out injured half the season because of Moyes and his 30 year old ideas about fitness training. He did the same in Everton and always started the season with half the squad out injured or exhausted after pre season.
And he has proven without a shadow of a doubt that he doesn't have any idea how he wants to play, with tactics mainly focusing on the opposition throughout the season instead of setting the standard. Teams like Swansea! and Southampton have dominated games at Old Trafford this year... Murdered 3-0 at home by biggest rivals Pool and City. Wasted a transferwindow chasing Fellaini and Baines with Shaw, Prowse and Lallana (to mention a few) showing obvious signs of a great future. And displayed a ridiculous small club mentality when noting that Liverpool were favourites at Old Trafford. He should have been fired on the spot for that comment alone (United is ALWAYS favourites at Old Trafford).
So no, not a surprise at all for anyone watching the games.
As for replacements? Klopp says he will stay with Dortmund, Simeone says he will stay with Atletico, Giggsy has no experience, Mourinho is too much, Blanc is happy in PSG, van Gaal is 62 and has been around too much. United needs someone who will stay put and stay hungry.
My personal opinion is that we should raid Everton yet again. I wanted Roberto Martinez when Ferguson retired and I want him even more now. He showed great loyalty and perseverance with Wigan, as well as an ability to get huge results (wins against Man U and Arsenal with back against wall, as well as FA cup win against City). At Everton he has proven he can step up and deliver with higher expectations. And he plays exciting football (something Moyes never did at Everton). I get goosebumps thinking what he could do with a top quality squad.
And of course it would be nice to peg the Everton supporters back a bit after the first double against united for 44 years!Last edited by WolverineBrother; 04-23-14 at 05:12 AM.

Re: Manchester United fires manager David Moyes
Ancelotti was mentioned as well but I think he´ll stick around with Madrid for a good while. He´s done a great season so far (albeit the ridiculous slip in La Liga), having been his first with this team and a few new players as well.
Yea but Moyes was fucked ever since he took the reins of that team. It was too big for him. Klopp was mentioned to replace Martino from Barca but Klopp said it ain´t happening.

Martinez I think would be too soon, and isn't exactly proven (just one year at Everton with a few key loan players, and Wigan). He'll probably get a shot one day, just seems (to me) unlikely to happen especially after Moyes. Seems Van Gaal is most likely just due to want/lack of options, be short-term though. Just sounds like every one else has at least one flaw or doesn't want it (supposedly). I'd still say Conte would be interesting and if you want young, he'd fit, but good chance he'd want to say at Juve.

Re: Manchester United fires manager David Moyes
I think most of the "candidates" are just wishful thinking. Getting Conte from Juve would be like Giggs being manager at United and leaving to manage AC Milan. Sure they are a big club, but home is where the heart is. Same goes for Klopp, and probably Simeone too. And big name managers at clubs who are in the champions league (and looking to win it) like Blanc and Ancelotti, just forget about it already.
I agree it is probably too soon for Martinez, and that they will most likely go for Van Gaal. But how motivated would he be at 62, with a massive rebuilding effort at hand? Don't know the guy personally but that's a big ask for a man aproaching retirement...
Other guys I like are Montella in Fiorentina, Tuchel of Mainz (Klopps replacement) and Rudi Garcia of Roma(won the double with Lille and set a serie A record with Roma). Plays exciting football and is great at developing young talent. Pep came from the ranks at Barca, so maybe Giggsy should be given the shot? All though he has not finished his badges yet...For when the One Great Scorer comes, to write against your name, he writes not that you won or lost, but how you played the Game
