The world cup is in a couple weeks. The single greatest sporting event on the planet, once every four years. Warring nations ceasing hostilities for the duration of the event, small third world countries on an even playing field with the world superpowers. Enemies given a chance to compete without violence. The oppressed given a chance to be recognized without injustice before the eyes of the world.
Sports are for entertainment and enjoyment, but the world cup is for humanity.
the beautiful game brings tears to my eyes.

It's entertainment, couldn't tell you why I like to watch sports but I do. Lately though it has mostly been just soccer and maybe cycling now and then, I like watching the NHL but convincing myself to spend 3 hours sitting watching a game is a bit tough (same with the NFL, though I still half-watch while doing other things).

Re: Everyone gets sports but me.....
I did explosive and firearms as well. I play bf as well although not to the extent that i once did. I never lost my desire for the real thing. In fact it amplified it by giving me ideas of what i could change about the real thing. Its how i came up with my design for an 9mm that could punch thru a bullet proof vest. One day i will sit down and cast my first one. I even bought the micrometer just recently.
Video games are fun but real life is way better. No virtual activity trumps sending rounds down range. To me its a stress reliever but i've never been a hunter. Probably because i like animals more then i do people.
Now as for my previous comment of i hate watching sports i should have included i like playing them. Some more then others but i've been to just about every type of sporting event at one time or another and they all ranked the same boring as time for me aside from bracket racing. That is the one thing i can watch and still have a good time but i have to be at the track. Nothing beats the rush for me of seeing how fast i can make a pass but even sitting on the sidelines i get to enjoy the smell of burning tires and the sweet smell of cam2 pouring out of the exhausts.
This thread has reminded me of how much i liked playing sports growing up but how much i hated being sidelined so someone else could play. Even as a member of the team i would rather go home then watch.

I don't get people that don't get sports.
The history of sports is probably as old as the history of people. People have always searched for ways to entertain themselves and sports have been a way to master nature and their environment, as well as keeping them in shape and providing challenges. Sports have always seemed to involve basic human skills and have changed little over the years.

Some sports are awesome some sport suck. Baseball & Football are even more boring than curling to me.
I like soccer and a few other face paced sports and pretty much all sports where someone could die.
