Frickin tree knocked out a powerline in my area, which knocked out my house's power. Despite my surge protector, I lost two RAM slots.
Thanks to Gigabyte, I have a 3 year warranty for parts and labor. Hopefully, this will cover an RMA. Just have to wait on an email so I can finish registration.
My RAM is fine. I wish it was the other way around though...now, I'm going to have to do a reinstall of Windows.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Re: Damn trees
surge protector should have a pretty good warranty on it as well. Most of them come with a guarantee that shit won't lose it's magic smoke if they are plugged into it.

I'll check into that this one was rated pretty high in Joules.
What's most annoying...IS THAT THIS HAPPENED RIGHT AS THE STEAM SALE STARTED. Most of the games I'll get I can play at max settings on my laptop, but #firstworldproblems.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Yes, check with your surge protector on the warranty it has, this exact circumstance happened to a friend of mine and the warranty from the protector covered enough on the claim for him to build a new computer, hell it can't hurt to check

Yeah, that ran through my mind, McGuyver. Luckily, I'm just limited to no OCing/2 slots for RAM (which means only 1333MHz). It's not as bad as it could have been. I've got my account set up with Gigabyte, so now I just have to find serial number hopefully without having to completely unassemble my rig.

I've also left Turboboost disabled instead of enabling it. Don't want to risk anything right now. I'm leery of running any games like DS2 right now to avoid drawing too much power through the board. Time to check out the new stuff that's been added to Terraria as the new update for Starbound still hasn't landed what with the move to London and all.

Re: Damn trees
If/when you talk to the folks about your warranty, EVERYTHING DIED! If the hit was enough to fry some RAM slots, it DID cause damage to the other parts of your computer. They might work, but there are definitely damaged and there is no way to tell the extent of the damage.
