Also check your state's laws and policies. Out here in Az, you are paid by the city if you push back onto the grid but only in certain quantities. The grid wasn't designed for backfeeding and few cities are willing to shell out to research smart grid technology. My city is super super all about green technology so we have a lot of research going on doing feasibility testing of back pushing. We have a test community out past city limits that have their own mini grid where they all push to storage separate from the main grid. The infrastructure needs a major overhaul for widespread solar to take hold in residential areas but solar is so niche that it hasn't become a huge problem yet.
I do alot of work with solar for powering devices out in the field - It doesn't have incredibly high yields but with solar tracking you can double the power you harvest in certain areas.

Re: Anyone know about solar power?
I'll let you know when i get into it.
As for the linemen I believe i found your required to put the solar system in front of the service. Meaning its breakered before heading back out to the pole. I know they give everyone a heads up when there's a massive outage when they're working the poles but they also have safety equipment meant to withstand powered lines. I do wonder if they have a system where it throws a breaker from a solar type system when no current is being registered coming from the pole.
Many questions so far and not so many answers but i'll get it figured out.
