I would assume by the 2000th salute, you're fuckin tired no matter which douche president you are.

Re: presidential salute
Everyone has awkward greetings once in a while, I'd hate to have my worst on film.

Re: presidential salute
The president is a civilian.
There is certainly no requirement to return a salute. That's something that goes on between service men and women. Presumably the president can choose to acknowledge it any way he chooses.
If he does salute, my sense is that it is - by definition - casual. He's not in the military. If he's getting off his plane and there is a foreign head of state on the carpet to greet him, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't acknowledge it at all.

I guess you would have to been in the military to appreciate the meaning behind it.

Re: presidential salute
It's a sign of respect for the person's position. When you salute, you are saluting the rank of the individual. Not the individual themselves. The president is a civilian with the highest ranking position in the country. He does not have to return the salute, no military personnel out there would feel disrespected in the slightest.
I'm of the mindset, if you're the president and I'm in uniform saluting you.. If you return the salute, I'd feel better if you knew what it was for and why you're doing it in the first place. Not doing it because you think you're supposed to. Also, at the very least, don't have anything in your saluting hand.

way i see it no matter if your the president or just joe shmoe if you salute a soldier your doing it out of respect for them being a soldier not cause of thier rank but if you are the president the one who sends these soldiers to war you should damn well show them some respect for what they do and put down your fuckin cup of coffee or dont do it at all
