Rush2049's Home Theater Project/Hobby
Maybe some of you already know, maybe you don't.
But I am very much into home theater and audio related things.
Lately I have just purchased some new front speakers and I realized I have not really had a thread about my theater on TPG.
So to start off I will post a photo of the latest setup and list equipment. I will try to dig up photos of all my equipment swaps over the past few years.
KRK Rokit 10-3 Monitors are new (May 10 2012)
These replaced a full 5.1 surround system by Logitech (Z-5500) which I sold for 50$ profit after 2 years of ownership.
U Desk with Receiver and KRK Monitors (July 15 2012)
Purchased an Onkyo TX-NR809 receiver to better drive the speakers and reduce humming from internal sound card.
Recording Mic on Swivel Arm to replace flaky headset (January 2 2013)
My hatred of wearing things on my head drove the purchase of a nice recording mic and swivel microphone arm.
MXL v69 Mogami Edition Tube Amp
Rode PSA-1 Studio Boom Arm
Built Shelves to flank left and right of TV (September 23 2013)
Shelves are a 7-ply White Birch with a dark cherry stain and clear coat. Built by hand, re-inforced each shelve on the back side with triangle pieces.
Television was purchased sometime before. Samsung PN60F8500 Plasma telelvision. (The best plasma currently, and maybe ever, as plasma is going away)
TV got mounted on the Wall (October 28 2013)
Got rid of custom antique bed bannister table stand and mounted television to the wall behind it. (one of the standard samsung tv mounting kits)
Not pictured: Rear speakers are purchased. A set of Mackie MR8 mk2 studio monitors.
Received a new footrest/table (December 25 2013)
Received as a gift to aid in using a computer on the theater. You still have to sit on the edge of the couch, but its better than before.
Purchased new 24" subwoofer driver for future subwoofer box build (July 4 2014)
This driver can be run free-air or infinit baffle. But I have just not found the time to build a proper sealed enclosure for it yet.
If I were to build a ported enclosure the correct size is around 30 cubic feet.... crazy.....
Stereo Integrity HS-24 Dual 2 Ohm Coils
Purchased new front speakers (December 6 2014)
New Front speakers were purchased after a recent audio get-together. They are painted with Red Ferrari Car Paint.
Reaction Audio CX-15T
And that brings me to today, where I am still re-wiring from the latests speaker purchase. The KRK Rockit 10-3 speakers will become the new rear speakers and the Mackies will be sold soon. I still need to build a box for that subwoofer driver....
Any questions?
Other equipment that I have that isn't really important, but has helped solve some issues / run smoothly.
Belkin PureAV Home Theater Power Console (provides better grounding to sensitive speakers, solves remaining hum issue)
Cerwin Vega CV-5000 (5000 watt amp I am using on the HS-24 subwoofer driver, needs to have a new electrical circuit installed for full power usage)-- Intentionally Left Blank --

Re: Rush2049's Home Theater Project/Hobby
I just don't have a room to dedicate to my hobby. Sorry? Maybe when I move I will be able to do so.
It very much is a home theater, i've just put more money into equipment rather than the furnishings.
I do have a very comfy 4 person couch currently. (Not individual seating.... too sterile)
If you're ever in the area Kanati you are welcome to stop in for a movie. It will be the house slowly rumbling to the ground....-- Intentionally Left Blank --

Re: Rush2049's Home Theater Project/Hobby
I have a 60" Samsung F8500 plasma that I sit 6 feet away from, which is just about the correct distance for the pixel density of a 1080p screen that is 60 inches. If I went 4K I could sit even closer!! Right now the response time from my computer to being on the screen is about 30-45 ms which is about as good as you can get for a tv. If I need to be competitive I walk across the room to my other computer which has a 120hz 1080p asus monitor attached to it.
If I ever upgrade my screen it will probably be to a projector with an acoustically transparent screen where I can hide a lot of audio equipment behind. But I would need a new room before that happens.-- Intentionally Left Blank --
