Second Pic: Just plain jealous. Long before rollerblades (in-line skates for the kiddos) were invented, a nice, clear, frozen lake and a pair of skates were like nothing else. Not being confined to a rink, and being able to travel on blades, was one of the high-points of Winter.

On a side note....What a wonderful place to start every morning. I bet the view in the Summer is every bit as nice.

I think I played in some of those Cup Finals games too. :)

The ice was great, and because the snow was dry powder it took hardly any time to clear. Games started about 12:30. The home team provided a mixed 12-pack of Stone's (bottles) and the visitors brought a 12 of cans. One of the visitors shot wide-right on a hard wrister and broke my bottle of Stone's Arrogant Bastard.

A scuffle did not break out, and substitute refreshment was immediately procured.

My brother's boss came by with his wife and 3 kids, some boys from 6 houses up the lake skated down, and it was All-Skate hockey for the rest of the day.

It's my brother's place, and yea - it's pretty nice. Good swimming on a summer morning. Nice, as you say, in winter too. I was surprised to find that I was the only one out for a morning skate. Lotsa people in the afternoons though - mostly kids. There were at least 6 rinks cleared, and someone on the other side of the lake had lights set up.

    Yeah - ick.

But I gotta admit; over the past few years I've gained an appreciation for what is generally called American Lager (and/or Pale Lager and Light Lager) and what me and my snooty drinkin' buddies call Yellow Beer.

A few summers ago I was helping a friend of a friend and after a long afternoon's work on a hot day the principle hauled out a cooler filled with cans of beer. I know I don't like Coors Light, so I grabbed a can of the other thing he had in there (it wasn't Busch, or Natural Light, but it was a major brand). I like a swanky beer but I'm not an asshole who will refuse a refreshment honestly offered.

    Anyway, it was really good.

There's lots of mass-produced beer that I don't like, but I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with producing at-scale. I was happy to discover that it's possible to make a really good American-style lager.

Some smaller brewers are doing it too. This:

Session Lager | Full Sail Brewery & Tasting Room & Pub | Hood River, OR | BeerAdvocate

... is very nice (even though the whole "session beer" thing strikes me as odd).
