    2016 Fishing Thread

This is from this morning around 9am. We'd been in the water for a good hour before this and probably paddled a little more than 3/4 mile through the current and wind. This is a part of the river where the fresh water runs into the salt water. It's an interesting spot where you can catch all kinds of species. Unfortunately, this was the only one I caught today.

That looks real nice. I'm not much for fishing, but I love being out on the water in a kayak.

How do you cook your catfish?

I don't know the brand, but there's a red bag of Fish Fry that I usually buy from Publix. I'll typically mix some black pepper and garlic salt into the fry mix then coat the filets. I like to do smaller chunks for catfish. Grouper too. Then I heat up an iron skillet with some peanut oil and fry until golden brown. I did not keep this catfish as it was pretty early into the day, and I had some expectations that weren't met.

    Hippies aren't heathen - they're heretics.

Srsly: heathen, blasphemer, infidel, heretic - these distinctions are important.

    Personally, I'm a blasphemer 1 and a heretic 2, but I'm not heathen or infidel. 3

The Great Peanut Oil Heresy is traced to the introduction of Chinese-American cuisine; ie: cheap take-out chow mein and egg foo young. Its usefulness as a low-smoke cooking oil was known to us in the distant past, but somehow (civil war and reconstruction?) we forgot a significant part of our own heritage and it fell to the Chinese diaspora to return to us our own native fry oil.

Basically you're a racist, because George Washington Carver and because Orientals. 6

So stop oppressing your southern brethren, Kanáti de Torquemada. 7

Also, don't call Warprosper a hippy. I'm pretty sure he shaves his armpits. 1

    Cheers,

    AetheLove

    1 - definitely.

    2 - probably.

3- all measurements are relative to locale and not to an absolute reference point. 4

4 - if you ever find an absolute reference point, please tell me about it. 5

    5 - ... so I can condescendingly explain why you're wrong.

6 - Dude, the preferred nomenclature is "Asian-Americans".

7 - absolutely everything in this post is made-up. 8

8 - except for that one part. 9

9 - no, the other one.

    1 - (see 1)
