    BvS

So I guess from the lack of posts about it, everyone agrees Batman v Superman was a mess? It's in a freefall at the box office after the first week. It's a shame cause we really needed a good start to the series. There's so many good story lines in DC I hope that this doesn't make WB think twice about some of their plans.

Well there is a huge fundamental problem with DC comics that has nothing to do with the movies except that DC comics don't make good material for movies. They lack the depth with their characters and a touch with reality that Marvel comics do. They have always made great cartoons like the Batman cartoon from the 90's that introduced Harley Quinn and the Superman cartoon made around the same time. Both were absolutely amazing but to see them made into a big screen live action movie would have been ridiculous and actually pretty irresponsible.

It isn't like a good DC movie can't be made The Dark Knight obviously is the perfect example of this but at the end of the day they have fundamental problems that need to be addressed. Problems like humanizing their characters, getting in touch with reality by making us care about the people they are saving (an example of this would be the scene in avengers when cap saves all the people who were trapped inside a building by the aliens in the battle of New York), and not making them all gods who destroy entire cities when they get into a tiff.

I thought it was entertaining...but I doubt I'll watch it again anytime soon; I am curious to see the R-rated director's cut though to see what was cut from the film originally.

Ben Afleck was incredible; best Batman yet in my opinion.

Henry Cavil is an okay Supes but I think this interpretation of Superman totally blows. You can do a gritty and dark superman movie without making him a pretentious brooding hipster baby. It's not his acting that's wrong, it's the writing for his character. For a superhero who is the essence of "good" and wants to use his powers to help people, he doesn't seem to have any interest in being a hero.

Yea idk why they went the route they did with Superman. I can understand him being dark in the sense that he's feeling a bit self loathing cause of how he handled what happened in the first movie, but they just made him careless and unforgiving. They didn't at all make it seem like he was trying to be better than that. It would have made for a better movie had he been more depressed, fighting with his demons, and coming to terms with the fact that he had to kill Zod. Give some form of hope at least.

As for Affleck, he was alright I guess. I still think there were other people that could do it better than him. The whole movie I thought he seemed more like Slade Wilson not Bruce. He just didn't do it for me, but he wasn't the worst. However, I was more upset with how they treated Batman than who was being him. Yea he's supposed to be brutal and walk that line, but he's not the Punisher. He doesn't brand people and he doesn't shoot people. Batman wouldn't jump to conclusions(or jump right into a fight with him without hearing him out) like he did with Superman, and he would have had his eyes on everything that was going on with Lex to the point that he would have known something was up. He didn't feel like a Batman that was in control or had years of experience doing this stuff.

Ultimately it was the story that did it for me. It was so poorly thought out. The reason they started the fight was just ridiculous, and the resolution of the fight was just god awful. They had a decent base with MoS to work with, and they just went a really odd way about it. They should have brought Flash into the story. Have him and WW investigating Lex together, and then letting B&S have some focus on each other. Let Lex manipulate Superman into thinking Batman was a bad guy so that the focus is off of Lex, and have Superman initiate the fight out of rage(or a way of fixing what he's done in the past by trying to "be the hero" and take the bad guy Batman down). Then during the fight release Doomsday, have Flash and WW start the fight, and then, when they struggle, make the Flash the voice of reason between B&S so that they can band together and stop him.

They had the ability to do all that and make a much more solid story than the one they presented. It would have given the movie a comic relief in Flash, made the BvS fight less stupid, and gave more screen time for Wonder Woman.

They had reasons for the way they handled everyone there and it works. The trouble for fans is that if you aren't familiar with the source material they pulled it from, it comes across as disjointed and not making a ton of sense. It's also bad that they pulled that source material from very disparate parts of the DCU. An elseworlds here... a future timeline there... an alternate history here... a crisis there...

I'll go into it later in depth, but right now I gotta run.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

And that's fine with an elseworld story, or a one off series, The problem is that when you're doing a movie for the masses doing a Superman and Batman that leans more towards the Injustice series rather than the more typical storylines doesn't make sense. Most people won't get that, nor will people enjoy it as much.
