I'm honestly kind of laughing at the stupidity, but I do feel bad for them in a sense. They're generally good people in my experience.

80% penalties and interest seems maybe a bit excessive to me.

If I'm remembering it right, the lawyer that advised it all set ended up taking a plea, and the Wyly's were convicted on all counts. The defense basically amounted to "We didn't know we couldn't do that."

So I clicked through wondering what sort of nonsense had dusted up in a confluence of Texas/Louisiana culture and the writing of David Foster Wallace...

... and discovered that "DFW" means different things to different people.

Oh well.

But now I'm thinking y'all should rename the airport there to "David Foster Wallace International Airport".

Because famous dead American.

... and Texas only does ridiculous when it's on a grand scale.

And though DFW was certainly grand,

... for some reason he doesn't scale.
