Hog Hunting next month
Going on my first Hog hunting trip next month and have an itch to get a new gun for it. My plan at the moment is take my lever action 30-30 with a .38 side arm but the buddy I am going with is bringing a .50 Beowulf which makes me a bit jealous. I took a look at what Academy has on the rack that I could pick up this weekend at a decent price and a few things peaked my interest but I wanted to know what a few veteran hog hunters here (looking at Lefty and Nuckle) have to say on the matter?

Re: Hog Hunting next month
We are heading to a place in south Texas (Texas Hog Hunting, Texas Wild Pig Hunt, Cheap Hog Hunt Texas) and from what I can tell it will be brush hunting during the day and blind hunting at night. Sounds like the 30-30 would do just fine but I am eyeing this Ruger Mini-14 Ruger Mini-14 .300 AAC Blackout/Whisper 7.62 x 35mm Semiautomatic Rifle | Academy, the trip gives me an excuse to tell the wife I need a new gun :-)

Re: Hog Hunting next month
It's tough to beat a 30-30 in the thicket. I used one for years up here in the brush, and dropped many deer with it.
But....
That mini 14 looks mighty nice, and would serve you well in the stands. Still a decent brush gun, but with a little longer reach.
Clearly your hands are tied. You NEED both.
