    I've had enough.

I'm 46 years old, and tomorrow I will be burying the third friend in less than two years. Guys my age all dropping for the same reason. Cocaine.

I've had enough of watching my friends kill themselves. I'm tired of my favorite rock stars killing themselves. I've had enough of watching good people, with bright futures, and families and friends, kill themselves with poison.

Wednesday evening, I was just finishing-up a solo round of PubG, and was going to duo a round or two with Sly. My phone rang, and it was my buddy/neighbor's wife. She was so distraught, I could hardly make out what she was saying. I got "Brian", "ambulance", and "help". I bolted out the door (sorry for bailing on you Sly), down to his place, and got there just in time to see the medics wheeling him down the sidewalk and into the ambulance. There was foam coming out of his mouth.
I ended up driving his wife to the hospital, and within an hour we got the bad news. I will never forget the sound of pure grief that came from poor Amy. It was almost the same sound that came from Brian's mother when I called her.
Nobody should ever have to hear that sound. Nobody should ever have to deliver that kind of news.
None of this was surprising. Brian had had a problem for many years. We told him over and over that this day would come. Like throwing a life ring to a drowning person who refuses to grab hold. It certainly came as no shock, but no less devastating.

I didn't post this to bum anyone out. I just want to send a message. Drugs will kill you, even if you are really good at them and have done them for years. Drugs will kill you. If you want to find the perfect high, find it in yourself.

Sorry for your loss Dex, while I haven't lost anyone to cocaine, I have lost people to other drugs and alchohol, as well as seen many lives ruined because of them.

Dex, I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'm glad that Amy has someone like you to help her go through that though, I'm sure you were a great help to her.

    It's hard. I've been there.

    But not three times. Damn.

    Thomas Tallis works for me.

    Peace and strength.

    Re: I've had enough.

Thanks all. Aethe, that was beautiful.

The memorial service felt odd. I had lost contact with many of the friends I had grown-up with because of the different choices and paths many of us were on. I hadn't really seen any of them for 20 years or so, until about a year and a half ago at the first memorial service for one of our group. Then, saw them again last Summer (at yet another memorial service), and now again this weekend. It's mostly good to see old friends, but there are far better reasons to. It's good to see that some of my friends pulled themselves off of the path they were headed down, and hopefully it's another wake-up call for the few who still haven't.

    Re: I've had enough.

Had a friend I hadn't really been in touch with for quite a few years hire on at my office about five years ago... He had been into all SORTS of crap when he was younger but had been going to AA for years and was higher up in that organization. A mentor to a couple of people even. One day I see his wife post on facebook that she had to tell their kids he wasn't coming home. That was a sunday morning. Thought that his early years of hard living finally caught up to him. Later on we found out that he had overdosed and had been on drugs (likely heroin) for quite some time. He was just really really good at hiding it. Sometimes you can help and sometimes you just can't.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.
