    You can make an orange map till the SDK comes out, and just get the layout of them all done, so when the SDK comes out you add textures, models etc etc.

    If you want to do the above, yeh, just do a hl2 map.

    They ain't going to change hammer, and they have only updated 2 entites + added several. So If you are able, i'd say start mapping a .bsp so you can get the geometry worked out. Or if your really enterpising, there is a guide on how to set up your hammer so you can use and compile it for L4D and go right away, and a lesser guide on how to just put the textures and models in if you want to work with them.
