Steam Community and You! A Practical Guide.

Hi, I'm Benandorf. You may remember me from such films as "Honey I killed the kids!" and "There's a Hobo in your closet." Today I'm here to talk to you about Steam Community.

Some people have said that this is a half-assed way for Valve to try to compete with both Xfire and Myspace. This is true. However, due to the high number of TTPers that have steam IDs, it's quite useful to connect with that special someone for a night of hot, sweaty teamplay.

When you first click on the Steam Community tab, you will be prompted by a big button to create your own. Be a sheep and click on that button now. This brings you to the "Edit my Steam ID" page.

On this page there are quite a few boxes with annoying text to the left of them. Ignore that text for now, because it will make filling this whole thing out much easier on you. The first box will be what the name of your "Steam Community Account" will be. This can be changed later if necessary. The second box is your real name. I suggest putting things like "Crap Bag" or "Mr. Hammock" in there, to throw off any FBI agents that may be looking for you. The next two are the Headline and Summary boxes, respectively. The Headline box puts a message in big bold letters on your page, while the Summary box puts something underneath that in letters that are slightly less bold.

At this point on the page, there's a line separating boxes that need to be filled in. You may be thinking you're finished, but if you are, you're wrong, we all hate you, and wish you would leave and never return. Let us continue.

This next box is the custom URL where your page can be found. Put something in that box (generally a name is best), and then it will show up as http://steamcommunity.com/id/whateveryouputin/ if for some reason you want to look it up on the web.

The next three boxes are multiple choice questions, and do not need to be filled in at all. Simply choose your country from the first box, and then if your country is USA, chose a state from the second, then a city from the next one. These boxes show up as you answer the previous one, so if you only see one, worry not that you got some bad drugs.

Another line presents itself here, followed by the part you've all been waiting for: the avatar. Like most avatars, this is the perfect place to upload porn or mind-scarring pictures so that everyone that possibly had an interest in you will be forever turned off of spending time with you. Unlike most avatars, these are not well policed, so you can keep porn up there almost indefinitely. Click "Browse..." and find the picture on your computer that you want to share to the world, then click Upload.

One more horrible, eye-scarring line presents itself to your vision here, but thankfully we're almost done. All that's left is to put in the title and URL of your favorite sites, and you're done (sorta). The first box is for the title of the site, and the second is for the URL. There are three of these couples in all, so you may have to decide whether it's more important to send unwary visitors to goatse or 4chan. But that's a decision you'll have to make on your own. Be sure to toss TTP in there, for good measure.

After all that, hit Save Profile at the bottom of the page. Congratulations, you now have your steam ID! But we're not done yet!

Once you click Save Profile, it will create your Steam Community page, and leave you on that same page where you just filled a bunch of boxes. Near the top of the page, there's a few blue links. Groups won't help you now, and customize does nothing, so go ahead and click on "Games". Once this page loads, click on "Select Favorite Game", and then choose one from the list that pops up. That's it.

Near the top right of the page, there's a box that has "Search" in it. Click inside this box, then put in "Texas ...TeamPlayers..." This will bring up a list of groups and people. The first one will be our beloved TTP, while the others are posers. Click on the first link. On this page, on the right-hand side, there is a discolored box with a few blue links in it. Click on "Join This Group". Congratulations, you are now a part of the TTP steam group!

We're almost done now, just need to learn how to set up the nickname that will show over Friends, in groups, and in some games. Click on File at the top left of the Steam window. Scroll down to Settings, and click that. Now go to the "Friends" tab. The first box near the top will have what your name shows up as in Friends list and TF2, while the other options are self explanatory to those with intellect above the average acorn.

And with that, we're done. You now have a shiny new Steam Community Page, where you can send all your friends to laugh at your tiny time spent on CS:S, and are a member of the TTP Steam Community Group.

    Ker-bump.

Good advice, and I've seen a ton of y'all who need to do this on your Steam pages. For shame!

    Little Girl Lost

… her mother died the first week after the infection. She went out one night and never came home. “I’ll be right back,” she said. Her father said she shouldn’t go. “I just need to go get more medicine from work. She’ll need her medicine. We don’t know how long it will take to get somewhere.” She went out and never came back. She forgot to say I Love You. Her name was Mallory.

They waited for a week, she and her father. His name was Martin Bishop. He was a doctor and he had lots of friends. Friends that would always come over and talk for hours. They would drink grape juice from glasses and laugh at silly things but when the TVs stopped and the radio didn’t play music anymore, the friends stopped coming. His cell phone would ring and he would smile or leave the room and her mom would come and talk about things – any things – and her father would come back later and sit in silence.

“We can’t wait anymore,” he said. His eyes were red and his face was puffy. It was two days since her mother Mallory did not return.“We just can’t wait anymore, Bridget, I’m sorry.” He packed up lots of things and they left.

They tried to drive but the streets were packed with cars and more cars, and there were people all over that didn’t move. Other people driving and walking said cars made noises and noises made Them come. So they walked and they walked a lot. She asked about her mother and her father said she wasn’t coming back and that made her cry. She wanted to stop and cry but her father got mad and said she had to be quiet. He hit her when she said she couldn’t walk anymore. He hit her and said keep going on or she was going to die just like her mother. That’s when he cried.

He sat and cried and said sorry for saying those mean things. They sat while he cried for a long time and ate a little food but then something screamed and They came. They attacked and she and her father tried to run but something pulled him away and she couldn’t reach him. He told her to go, go, go, and she ran from them and hid inside of a building. She and ran up many stairs before she hid in a room and stopped.

She had food and there was more in the room to eat but she didn’t know how to ration and in two days she ran out. She could hear Them outside of the building, and in the building and all around the sound of fireworks and screaming. In two more days the fireworks came less and the screams of real live people almost stopped completely.

She cried and she cried a lot. Alone in that room with no food she began to starve. Her hair fell out and her body withered. She was alone and helpless and soon they would come and kill her. The waiting, the remembering of her mother and father, of her friends, of everything that once was and now wasn’t… It was too much for her to bear… Days were agonizing and nights were spent spilling tears and waiting… For death was surely to come in the form of many angry, bloody-thirsty faces… surely the next living thing to cross her path would be something infected with malice…

And then she heard footsteps and she was startled. Finally! The End! But she wouldn’t go quietly, no, she would fight death unlike her father who hit her and like her mother who left her alone… She would fight and scream and claw and kill…

The door opened and there was a piercing shaft of light in her face. They did not see her, Death and his cohorts, but she saw them… and with an ungodly screech she was upon them and blood lined the walls…
    - fight with me, not beside me -
