    detect/avoid mod servers?

I understand that having mod server is cool and pleases a lot of people; however, I really do not want to play on servers with special rules and/or music. I also dislike playing on server with alltalk activated.

So is there a way to restrict the server search to only "vanilla" servers? (something like the maxping command I have in my auto-exe.cfg).

At least, is there a way (a command) to detect that the rules have been modified? I know it can be done for alltalk, also some mod servers display the list if you type "!hint" I think.

If there is no general way to do it for all modifications, here are the things I try to avoid the most:

    - rule changes concerning the hunter's jump (it's hard enough to learn how to jump, I don't want the rules of physics to change without warning)

    - rule changes concerning other infected boss (smoker range, tank's speed, etc)

    - other rule changes that mess with the balance (time for helping a survor up, having 4 smokers at the same time...)

    - alltalk (Am I supposed to type everytime I want to have a strategy?)

All of this are fine if you choose the server; but when you search for a public game (or start one as lobby leader), it really sucks.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Just call a vote to return to lobby. All you need is one guy on the other team to vote through. Not even that, just have 4 votes and hope the other team doesn't vote "no" 4 times.

And yes, this should be an option.

No, there currently isn't a way to filter out servers from the lobby. Hell, you can't even tell most of the time if a server is modded or not.

All you can do is just vote to return to lobby and search again.

Granted there aren't a lot of servers with game changing mods out there. I just found out the first two in my life last night. One played music, the other played bad music.

Music is the most noticeable (and irritating) thing a server can mod, but actually you can disable it (I remeber finding an option in counterstrike to never download audio files from a server; it should work here too).

But the problem with rule changes is that you can play 10 minutes without realising it. For example I once played on a server with a "pro-mod"; one of the changes was that helping a survivor up took only 3 secs. I felt something was off, but only after a while (but it really screws the timing for infected attacks).

An other mod (which gave you the full list with "!hints") changed stuff like the range of the tank's punch. This is terrible because no one really knows this range, but when going back to a normal server, you will just hit air the first times you'll be tank. And not understand why.

About 25% of servers I played on had rule changes; and I always quit as soon as I noticed.

One in four servers that I join have some sort of ''low gravity" mode, where you can jump super-high. It's cool, but one time me and my father finished a campaign, on expert but with cheats like that. I thought achievements would be disabled by default, but they were not. So we're stuck with un-legit achievements now, and it sucks.

Bad luck, I always get vanilla servers.
