Make it faster? I don't think there is any way you can just "make it faster". If you have it on, turn off the Windows Sidebar crap and that should speed up your computer as it eats up a lot of resources having it open.
Is it doing anything in particular though, or what makes you think it's going slow?
What's kind of processor do you got? How much RAM? A lot will depend on what kind of machine you're running.

Everything is stock, no upgrades or anything of that nature.

Why do they package those core computers though with only a 1 gig? Probably to get you to buy the RAM separate or "upgrade" it where ever you got it at to get more money.

Re: Windows Vista.
It's ridiculous that people say vista is slow. Hell, if I put windows 3.1 on this computer back here, you can damn well bet it's going to boot faster than your XP machine.
EVERY operating systems requires faster and better hardware than the previous. To say Vista sucks because it doesn't run great on your 1 gig or even 2 gig machine... it's just not right.
Double your specs then compare the two.

Re: Windows Vista.
I don't like vista because the "Wireless Zero Config" on XP was replaced with "WLAN" on the Vista. If you we're running "WZC" on XP you'd lag for 2-3 seconds every 60 seconds(this is because "WZC" is searching for a better network), but to fix it all you'd have to do is shut it down and run the program you got with your wireless card. On Vista you still get the 2-3 seconds lag every 60 seconds but can't shut off "WLAN", if you do you won't be able to use the Internet via wireless. It sucks cause the lags only happen while playing online games. (And yes I know that I could just run wired, but 1. I can't because of the layout of my house and 2. I've seen people play lag free with wireless.)
