Re: Kelderos?
That is correct Ira; and for inquiring minds that want to know. Basic was never intended to be easy, it's designed to weed out the ones who don't belong and will be the ones to get their brethren killed. You want that type gone as quickly as possible. Not to mention the amount of horse crap one has to put up with everyday. Tell him not to give them cause to be harder than they are already going to be, i did that on accident and my entire Basic/AIT was spent wondering what Drill Sgt. was gonna find me next for something i didn't do, just to grill me

If he is in the Air Force I wouldn't fret too much. my nephew went through AF basic a few years ago, and they have ruls about no PT if it's too hot or too cold, or raining. I guess you don't have to fight if the weather is bad, you just call in your buddies to bomb the crap out of the nme.
Now the Army, Navy, or Marines basic sucks balls. I had a few buddies go through each, and it didn't matter what the weather was you worked your ass off. Actually, the worse the weather the more the instructors tried to kill them.

Haha... no. Since Lackland is in Texas, they won't let anyone work outside on black flag days. Even pro football players die of heat stroke in Texas (that's why all NFL teams have enclosed practice facilities).
But Airforce guys (I'm an Army guy) are far from weaklings. And considering they are arguably the "smartest" branch of the military, I'm not sure I mind them staying indoors. Think about it. Would you want the guy retasking your satellite to have to worry about his PT score? Would you want the guy loading a nuclear warhead kicked out because he couldn't run fast?
Annnd.... the Airforce PJ's are badass.

Re: Kelderos?
I was in the air force, K9 unit. And we were out in all kinds of shit weather (cold, snow, sleet, rain mostly, it was Norway after all) freezing our nuts off on mountain practice patrols. I even got hypothermia once, my body temperature dropped to 35 degrees celsius and I went into shock, didn't know where I was or anything. I was on guard duty and we had a code red, so gasmask on, sitting in a puddle of freezing rainwater 3000 feet above sea level... What joy to remember.
We were true ground pounders. 4 hour patrol walks 3 times a night when on airport security detail. Round and round the damn airport... And the only people I ever saw were 2 escapees from the local mental institution. But that shit was scary as hell, because you never expect to find anyone, and when you do, you figure it is some real shit going down (this was at night so no kids out). Almost loaded my mp5. But they were just lost...
But we got to work with dogs every day so it was cool in my book. Especially the attack training was awesome. No matter how much padding you're wearing, a german shepherd or a rottweiler coming at you full speed get's your heart pumping. And the bite still hurt like hell... Being the dog handler was hella cool. Call backs were tricky though, don't try that when hung over...For when the One Great Scorer comes, to write against your name, he writes not that you won or lost, but how you played the Game
