PC: Help a defenseless little girl get her games to run?
So my dad gave me a Mac Mini with Boot Camp on it. I have never owned a PC before so I promptly shat myself with joy and, after checking my system requirements carefully, downloaded Team Fortress 2 and GMod.
However, I'm having problems.
At first, the game would launch and go to the menu, and would load me into games just fine. But then when I actually connected to the game, the audio would loop and the screen would freeze, or I'd get the message "hl2.exe has crashed." I tried every fix I could find, and restarted my computer several times. After my last restart, I tried to launch TF2 and I got an error message saying I needed pixel shader 1.1 or higher. I'm 100% certain that I have a higher pixel shader than that.
Ugh, help! ;_;

Izzombie - Boot Camp is unfortunately very hit and miss with regards to Source Engine games, and Team Fortress 2 is a particularly buggy one. However, there is an easy solution if you don't mind coughing up a little bit of cash:
It's called Crossover, and it's confirmed working for Team Fortress 2 (albeit with a couple of minor glitches here and there) - you can check the details here.
Unfortunately, as with all the best solutions to any problem, it's not a free one. They charge £26 (about $35-40?) for it, but if you want the most reliable way of getting your games working on a macbook, this looks like the way to go. They do however have a Trial Version so you can see if this particular solution works for you.
Hope this helps.

Hi there. I saw this thread earlier, but I only just realised something that should help you without handing over any of your hard-earned cash.
On May 12, Valve are releasing the Steam client for Mac along with Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal and the Half-Life series modified to run on Macs. If you already have the games you wont need to buy them again, so if you wait another couple weeks, you should be able to run your games perfectly fine outside of bootcamp
