The master reset only applies to the password.
The person who had it before me change the master logon name and probably deleted the admin & guest user logon according to the company's tech support rep."And the hits just keep on coming." - Tom Cruise, A Few Good Men

L4d and L4d2 Crash entire comp
Ok I have looked everywhere for my particular issue to try and fix and while some come close they arent 100% the same so decided to psot and hopefully someone can help me.
This started only this weekend after the last patch. I have started getting lag in the game and also the game ( mostly during events or finales) will freeze my computer ( sometimes with sound looping). i am not able to go to task manager or nothing i have to hard reboot everytime. Now it soudned like a graphics driver issue so i got all the latest updates but still having this issue.
Not at home so cant give you exact specs but i have a q6600 quad core with a GeForce 9800 gtx vid card, 2gigs. Any ideas would be helpful, was suppose to be in a tourney this weekend but now had to bow out cause of this issue.

I have essentially the same system as yours, and I haven't had any issues, so I am fairly sure it is not hardware related. I would make sure you do a Verify Integrity via Steam to make sure you don't have any corrupted files.

Just for grins, try deleting your VIDEO.TXT file in your CFG folder and let it recreate itself.

I have the exact same problem, right after the last patch. The game freezes quite often, and have received a BSOD. It has never done this before, and L4D1/2 are the only games that do this. I have tried re-verifying the data, installing, updating/downgrading drivers. My specs are close to yours:
Win 7 64bit, Q6600, GTX 260, Creative X-FI
I read somewhere that someone had a problem with the Creative drivers but that was months ago and the update afterwards fixed their problem (not the first time Valve has screwed something up). I also read that there was a previous bug with the nVidia GPUs and having the shader video quality set to anything above 'medium'. I tried changing all video settings from low-high (normally the settings are maxed out), and still the game runs choppy and crashes. I'll have to try and disabling the sound drivers tomorrow, but I have a feeling that still won't fix the problem.
