Re: There Will Be Blood
One thing that I really liked, that others might find kind of boring, is an actual look at how they went about drilling for oil back then. I had read some books about Spindletop, but I had not read Sinclair's book. I think it is somewhere on my shelf. But that scene of them flowing the oil down the hill, through the street, just illustrates so well about how they did business back then. They just made ponds for the oil to store it in. No lining, just a pit. Open to whatever. And remember, this is extremely flammable stuff here. Imagine a lake of gasoline in the front yard of your house. And everyone has nice campfires built around it. Roughnecking back then was damn near a death sentence.

Re: There Will Be Blood
haha well my family has a heritage in the oil industry (grandfather, father, uncle, mother, step-father) all work or worked for oil companies....
i can remember my grandfather telling me stories about the refinery he worked at in Bradford, Pennsylvania where when they needed to move oil down to the shipment docks they would simply pour it into the river. The oil, being less dense than water, would float on top of the river down to the desired destination and they would simply skim it off the top of the river... nevermind those pesky fish or other aquatic animals that want to drink/live in the water.
