    EA Download Manager BLOWS!

I am trying to download BF2 that I had to pay for again because one of my CDs would not load. No big deal, should be done in 3-4 hours, not bad for such a large game. Only problm is about every hour the EZ system craps out and totally starts over. That's right, it's not as cool as steam to pick up where it sstopped, but starts over from the beginning. What a piece.

Yes it does. I will not be buying full games from that thing for the foreseeable future. Steam spoils us.

I normally wouldn't from EA, but where I am staying the nearest WalMart is over an hour away. So it was drive forever, ebay it and wait a week, or give them one last shot. I might regret not using ebay, I will let you know who is faster, EA or the USPS.

Yeah, EA DL Manager is bad. I fear for the state of the purchasing, and selling of games. I like especially how Valve has decided to leave their download policy completely open ended, so that they might decide to start charging for just using the steam service in the future. Bah, oh great and powerful ping tool, how I love thee. "Installs 5yr old version of gamespy, and ASE. "

EA DL lost me when they wouldn't retain your current purchases more than 2 years and that is with an extra charge in the first place. Normal is what 6 months I think?

I mean come on, I've had to reload 3 times this year alone due to new hardware and/or hardware failure.

Steam does spoil us and offers so much more.

I used EADM to purchase Northern Strike and then lost it and re-downloaded nearly a year later, so default is more than 6 months. The second time I downloaded it, since I got an actual .exe file, I backed that up so now I have it forever and don't ever have to download again.

I do much prefer Steam to EADM, although I prefer hard copy game over all. For example, consider Steam. I recently played through Half Life (the original) for the first time ever. I bought it off of Steam since that was the only way to get the newest version which supports 16:10 and higher resolutions. Now, when I download it through Steam, I don't get a .exe file or anything I can backup. It auto-installs through Steam. Which sucks, IMO. For one, anytime I re-format or whatever, I have to re-download and waste all that bandwidth and time, when I should just be able to pull it out of my backup archive. And another concern, which some people may think is silly... what if Steam goes bankrupt in 5 years, and after that I want to re-install and play the original Half Life? I CAN'T!!! Sure, Steam's never going to go bankrupt, right? Empires do fall. You know those people who pride themselves in pulling out an old NES console with Duck Hunt and plugging it into their TV? Well maybe in 10 years I want to be that guy, except with Half Life. But I won't be able to unless Steam still exists in 10 years. Which sucks. It's like I didn't even actually purchase the software, I just purchased an online license to it. Steam works well in its current incarnation but there are several potential problems with it.

The good news is my 2142 DVD worked, all patched up, and tested, my ping is in the 40s. Anyone who needs free points and tags come find me tonight in the future.
