Respiratory Care Therapist in a Community Hospital, soon moving to a Trauma 1 Center.
Looking into working with Medical Helicopters and their transport.
Basically I administer treatments for those with respiratory problems...lots of asthma.
On a medical-copter I'd be assisting in transport, basically going along for the ride and administering oxygen if needed.

Im insanely jealous of your job, that's pretty awesome. Did you need Med school for that? If so, how many years? Also, do you intern for that type of job like an MD or what? I can't see how you can "practice" on patients who need urgent care like that ha.
Or is your working with an abundance of asthma related patients your practice until you start work in a trauma center?

Respiratory care is a 2-4 year program depending on the school / title you want. I'll be a CRT (certified respiratory therapist) in a few months and get my associate degree in health science; at the end of the next school year I'll test for my RRT (registered respiratory therapist) and get my BHS.
From there I plan on adding RPFT (registered pulmonary functions technician) and possibly AE (asthma educator) to my name. The string of letters would be something like RRT RPFT AE, and I plan on signing with every single one of those :]
We do intern for the job, I'm actually interning at the community hospital right now which is being sold and moved to a larger facility where it will become a Trauma 1 center.
With my RRT I'll be able to work in the helicopters.
Damn good pay....about $60k as a CRT.
Its a great field and I really do love it, its just so boring right now because there are very few ways to make administering an SVN treatment of Albuterol for 20 minutes every 4 hours fun.
this thread is now about medical careers
