    Re: Romney drops.....soooooooo

both sides are prepared to do what they feel is the best they can for the good of the nation. it's not like obama, clinton, mccain, or even nader hate america, and want to destroy it.

At the end of the day, it's about winning. And winning is about eliminating the means in which you lose. McCain loses by appearing old, out of touch, overly moderate and overly conservative at the same time, and white. Having a young minority conservative like Jindal rounding out the ticket gives insight, opinion, and campaign talent McCain would need to defeat obama. Same would be having a woman like Rice to back him against clinton.

"why can't it be like.....".....whatever. It can't be like that because it is the way it is. It's politics. It's winning. It's war. And given your typo above....I sincerely hope you aren't implying that I am disillusioned with politics.

by the typo if you are referring to the difference between "I would rather be right than president" or "I had rather be right than be president" i recalled the quote from offhand and when looking up sources to find the correct version i found both... but w/e

im not implying anything, like i said its nothing personal between you and me. I was stating an opinion that i would like to see more righteousness in the our leadership than competitiveness... dont get me wrong im not knocking competition at all as i realize we as Americans would not be where we are without it. i would just prefer voting for someone rather than against someone, as in i want to have to decide which candidate would be the better one as opposed to deciding which one would be less harmful to the country

i never said any of the candidates had malicious intent either...?

alright, i understand now. i meant to say how disillusioned IIIIII am with politics...

probably should have employed better diction and used a word like discouraged or something.

    Re: Romney drops.....soooooooo

Politics is what it is. Bottom line is to get elected a candidate needs to have appeal and to get votes. Matters not if the candidate has actual solutions. He only has four years to get things done anyway. Most problems are bigger than four years. Hmm, as I wrote that I wonder if term extensions might be better than term limits. Perhaps then voters would pay a little more attention. Nah.

Back to the instant topic of getting elected. Here's an analogy with George Carlin. He had a political message to get out during the Vietnam era, but network censors limited him to one joke on the topic. Instead of fighting the way things were, he got creative and worked inside the rules. He tells the story during an interview at the opening of one of his HBO specials. He said something along the lines of it's not my place to change the rules, but rather to work within them as I forward my agenda. Brilliant.

I expect the same kind of brilliance from candidates of both parties. I know what I want to see in government. I am also aware of the societal, political, and contractual limitations that are placed on candidates as they forward their agenda. What I try to do as a voter is look at all of the variables and limitations and see which candidate has ideals that intersect with mine and at the same time is most able to build a team out of the restricted resources that are available to him.
