because the senate is not based on population, and thus gives an unfair advantage and voice to small population states in the governance of the country. Not just an unfair advantage.....EQUAL FOOTING.

So if you don't like the electoral college, which is simply a weighted means of compiling the popular vote, then you have to hate the senate, which is totally outside the will of the popular vote. Montana....Alaska....Vermont.....with equal power as NY, florida, texas, and Cali? Crazy....right?
I think the legislative branch is set up wonderfully imo. I think the only thing that direct election(theres the word I was looking for earlier Direct election) is what the Presidential race needs it will put more on the candidates to actually see what the popular people want. if they want to keep all the votes they can.

But again I am a person who has been in a historicly Blue state that would like my, potential, red vote matter...

I vote for succession if any of these damn yanks come to power. Hell we have most of the oil and the :4's anyway. Hell then we can put all our cheap labor to use to help build a fence on the north to keep the damn Cajuns from invading us.

    but that's just it.....

if you remove the electoral college, then NONE of the sub-10 vote states matter, at all, since 75% of the population is focused in 4 or so states. without the electoral college, nothing matters except california, florida, texas, and new york. Nothing. All those small time "red" states are eliminated, and only the high poluation, density, urban lifestyles hold the presidency, negating the rural and smaller town society that half of america pretty much lives in.

And that's not good for the UNITED states.

yeah, and it was deemed unconstitutional, most especially in the ways it was applied to preven women and blacks from voting.

If you want a direct election, there would have to be something.

What you call a direct election, I call mob rule, and the mob is a bunch dumbasses for the most part.

I support the electoral college. I went to college, so I know what I'm talking about.

True, stuff that would be abused. Just throwing that out there because most people don't have a real clue. Maybe vote on the issues thing would be better where you only saw the platform and not the name or something.

a test of political climate not personal intelligence, something that will prove they are in tune with what happened in the last year, so it isn't Joe Shmoe from Boston who has been doing nothing but ignore the TV/Newpaper/Internet and shows up to vote. not to limit people by their sex/race/creed just by their grasp of current events. Not saying I'd pass it myself but something.

boy oh boy I should shut my yap the more I talk the dumber I keep sounding huh?
