Profesisonal ones at the dealership but I ususlly dont tanke my car to the corner "hole in the wall shop"

A mechanic sold me on the idea that my car needed a new fuel pump to solve the ol' "ping pong ball in gas tank" problem. The work and fuel pump was gonna cost me 700 dollars. I was on leave and 1800 miles away from my base. I paid them to do the work and the problem turned out to be a worn out engine coil,...costs $20 and 3 minutes to replace.....I don't trust mechanics.

Yes, i go to a small independently owned shop with an insane customer list. I know the guy will do the right thing because its HIS name on the top of the invoice, in front of the building and on the checks that pay the bills. He knows if if screws a customer over a couple hundred bucks, we will lose thousands in the long run!

The guy at the dealer is just there for a paycheck, in many cases, not all, he could give a fuck less if he fixes my problem, just as long as he has hours to work and some one gives him a check every week!

Hell no. I mean, why would you trust someone who (stereotypically) smoked weed all through high school, MAYBE graduated, went to an auto "tech school" if they are "trained" and likes to comb through your car to steal anything not nailed down. Mechanics are about as crooked as attorneys.

I say yes but if they start to feed me a line of BS than thats just a bad mechanic.
