Thread: Watchmen Movie

Im trying to read the book right now and am having a real hard time getting into it. So far its like a teen drama with superheroes involved.

I was hooked from the first Rorschach quote on the first page.

"Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. I just expect a book with superheroes to involve more fighting. So far some guy died, he was crazy, every1s retired, blue guy gets emotional and teleports to mars :5

Sounds pretty bitching to me. Might have to see if I can read the novel now, or go see the movie.

Well without getting too elitist and defensive, If you aren't interested or fascinated by the ideas and situations put forth in the book then I guess it isn't for you.  Im no comic book guy, (watchmen is the first one Ive read fully), from what I understand Watchmen was made as a response to typical superhero comics with all action and no intellect/philosophy.  Every major character in the book is a parody/twisted version of many of the comic book heroes in the 80s.  Dr. MAnhatten = Superman, NiteOwl = batman?  Im not sure exactly who's being compared to who, but the point is its a more realistic and intellectually appealing book because it looks deeper into the psyche of (super)heroes in a much more interesting manner than spiderman or superman ever did. I also like how it shows the realistic impacts of these characters in society.

I guess its just not for me, I'm still reading it out of stubbornness and laziness to fix my computer which is on the fritz.
