from 711 to bigdog
Hey guys. As some of you might be aware, 711 is getting out of the L4DF game, and I've purchased the community from him.
here's what I said in the site staff forum:
Like 711 said, the ownership of L4DF is changing. That's about the only change I see happening, at least in regards to how well you guys have been working, and how great this community is.
As he said, I own teamplayergaming.com, a community of sorts focused on first person shooters like CSS, DoD, BF2, TF2, and of course L4DF 1 and 2. We've got close to 10,000 or so members, millions of posts, and many years of history (formerly known as texasteamplayers.com). I began working with L4DF to help you guys sell ads and stay in the black last summer.
When 711 mentioned he was looking to sell the domain, knowing not only that the ads and the community could continue to thrive, but also that it could help create some inter-community relations between TPG and other game communities I'm involved in.... I made an offer. And here we are.
I'll be bringing in my web guru, bunni, from TPG who is the code/CMS/php wizard in my other community. He's assisted 711 in the transfer, and will help ensure that you guys have sufficient points of contact between the management of the forum and those the the ultimate passwords and keys to the system. He's been with TPG (and texasteamplayers) for a long while, is one of the 15 "high admins" or directors of TPG's administration, the lead web administrator, and my friend.
For the most part, I'm used to putting up ideas, having the major players (which I assume are those in this forum) debate and vote, and implementing changes in the community supported by agreement (or at least...a majority of agreement). Of course, when it comes down to the bottom line, major security issues, and ultimate decisions affecting the survival of the community, that fell on guys like 711, and now me. I look forward to getting up to speed with whatever current issues you guys are having as a community, understanding your leadership structure, and getting my input on the table when its needed. If there need to be changes, trust me... I'll discuss them with those that are affected, explain why, and be as fair about it as possible. If I didn't work this way, then my own community, teamplayergaming, would have died long ago. If we're going to survive, we're going to work together. The only people who will have problems will be those who don't work well with others...which is the definition of people we will no longer be needing.
Give me some time to play around on the site and see what's what, and we'll go from there.
Here's to the future...

we do what we can.
I'll be adding some of my home communities L4D1 and L4D2 server monitors. For the most part, we don't use them 100%, and if this community needs a dedicated home...I've got plenty of capacity to make .....dozens of L4D instances. No problem.
I've been playing around with adplacements (removed that ad after the first post, removed the 2 footer ads and replaced with the 300x250 rectangles now near the quickreply/end of threads sort of area.
the current mod power structure remains intact and it will take me some time to get to know who's who, who's in, and who's out....but I'm an established community owner, manager, and participant who's survived across multiple CMS's, domain names, game releases, community uprising, admin/moderator mutinies...
yeah. I hit the ground running. So....keep doing what you've been doing. I'l be around.
