Gas in the UK is about 4x the cost it is here in USA (far far more than $3.50 a gallon... I don't know the exact amount now but I think it's over $11... anybody?). People can charge anything they want for anything, unfortunately. I'd say they have that right. If I'm a sucker for paying it (and I'll admit it), so be it. I have choices, even if they are ridiculous in our current mindsets.

Consumers make choices, and firms react.
The oil companies are making money because they are providing a response to a demand for oil. If consumers demand clean energy, biofuels, and electric cars or whatever, then companies will shift their priorities.
Haven't you seen those commercials for Shell and GE advertising that they are investing in alternative energy's etc.?? Our decisions (Increased purchases of high mpg cars, hybrids, which lead to less consumption of gas ) have made the "big oil companies" start to shift their interests to other renewable energies!
Its economics, its business, it works.

What I've learned from my class this year and a summer with a climate expert in a progressive country has made me aware that we aren't doing enough. So, as far as having something worth fighting about, I think more needs to be done. I'm just not as all knowing about everything there is to know as the tone of your writing suggests you are. Even though I don't know everything that needs to be done, I've learned a lot in class about how each of the chemicals and gases we use and release into the environment effects the ecosystems and atmosphere, and I'm just trying to get at that more needs to get done, even if I don't have all my opinions on how it should be done sorted out yet. I'm still in highschool, but my age doesn't mean you should chide me for my views by suggesting I'm just another bandwagon jumper.
By the way, we stayed at the Hanse Wissenschaftkolleg www.h-w-k.de is the link and I've got pictures to back it up in case there's any doubt. I was around people who would know what they talk about, and from the conversations I was around I have little doubt that we are aiding in causing a climate shift for the worse.

If we are gonna carry on with veovis' random culture offtopic venture, I am ecstatic to be living in this time period. Man is reaching his apex, inventions are rampant, space exploration has only just begun, science has progressed more than we ever could've imagined. If I was born into a place like the cherokee's I wouldn't know what I was missing. They hadn't even tamed dogs by that time! You would have died by age 30 of natural causes, and nowadays you can live til 80 easy! Keep your head up! Stay optimistic! Appreciate the world we live in. Veovis, I know you couldn't sky dive if you were born into the cherokees! :9 :9 :9 :9

round and round it goes....bottom line.
live wherever you want, drive as far as you want, commute as much as you want.....120 miles in a charge, 1000+ using hybrid assist......nuclear power = no emissions.......electric cars.
fuck hydrogen, fuck biodiesel, fuck ethanol.
It's george jetson time, people hybrids and ethanol are just delaying the inevitable. 0 emissions, batteries, electricity, done.

Is that an opinion you formed on your own or is it something that prof told you and you regurgitated? Honestly, I don't trust my professors opinions, and the good ones are glad you don't. Get educated, read a few books, look at both sides and form an opinion of your own. Don't be a sheep.
