Re: Gas 3.50 a gallon?!?!?!
The only reason we tried corn ethanol was because we make so fucking much of it. We have such a surplus of corn that we invested time and resources into seeing if it was worth while fuel source. Turns out it wasn't. Live and learn.
I never heard of the car that ran on water, and tbh I dont believe your little story. Link?
I have heard the same thing about algae, and in fact this is being heavily researched at the moment. Although it is very far away from mass production. Like I said earlier in this thread, algae may end up saving us all.

Hydrogen is just another way of using electricity to power cars instead of batteries. Do you know how many batteries are used in electric cars? Have you considered the environmental impact of that many batteries in a new generation of cars on the environment?
(This may be a stretch), What about the romantic relationship between americans and traditional cars? Im serious, What about our history with the power of the american muscle car. Speeding on the open road, wind in our face, radio rockin', free-spirit and all that stuff. Everyone reading this thread remembers their first car, remembers their first ride in a loud muscle car, remembers seeing that awesome car driving down the road. Throw all that away for some pussy-shit electric car?
Food for thought.

I don't want to bump the thread too hard...it might break its so old.
Anyway, check this out:

making petroleum from algae? Interesting...that would bypass infrastructure problems if it worked. Wouldn't deal with environmental concerns but...

The algae is old news, but its pretty interesting stuff. I thought exactly like Pineapple said. I thought, "3.50, where!?!?".
I'm in Riverside, CA and on Monday the cheapest gas I found was 4.33 so I filled up on that. The next day, Tuesday, I drove by the same gas station and it was 4.44!
