Re: Gas 3.50 a gallon?!?!?!
i like the car and nice mower bigdog the ones ive seen have had cords and i wouldn't want to get one of those because if i run the cord over. but its fact that gas stations make more profit on the inside selling chips and drinks than on gas. and if you think of it you said you spend $400 a month on gas thats 8 cents a dollar plus all the people needing gas and over 3 months you would make around that. as for me i use 1 tank of gas every week and a half. and down here in Florida regular is 3.60 and premium is like 3.95. and rooster alternate fuel is good but once a million people do it there gonna charge like the same for it. also i herd that in 2009 or 2010 there is going to the biggest refinery in the world built in Texas which is supposed to cut gas prices in half. but thats only what ive herd.

at school i've had three teachers tell me the oil companies make 150% profits and that every term has been a record high for their profits. I've heard it alot from more than just teachers too, but the teachers have been saying it most lately and its usually while they're talking about the news/current events

See with that Aptera, they need to figure out a way to charge the batteries while you drive it. That way you would never need to charge it, because it would charge while it drives.
The same way our regular cars have Alternators. Your car only uses it's battery when the car is starting the engine and while you listen to the radio with the car off. When you drive, the alternator pretty much charges the battery. So with the electric Aptera, they need to somehow design a way to do the same thing.
While they drive on the electric motor, they need to find a way to charge it while it's running. Maybe use some sort of friction thingy mabobber to generate energy while its going. I don't know.. It would be MUCH more efficient. It would turn that 300+/gal. into well, infinity.
I know they can do this with the hybrids (gas/electric), but what about pure electric... That would be genius.

Re: Gas 3.50 a gallon?!?!?!
BigDog has the right idea with the car. But I disagree that new refineries are the answer. There is no shortage of gasoline, and refining oil isn't an extremely costly process. I also disagree with the idea that we can be self sufficient with production of crude oil at our present rate of consumption. In case you haven't noticed, we are drilling like crazy here in the US. I counted 6 drilling rigs and about 8 service rigs on my 2 hour drive home today. Are we anywhere closer to being self sufficient? And also, how much do you think this costs? Speculators may raise the price some. Its easy to say that, because by nature americans have a disdain for people who make money by simply manipulating money they already had. Oil costs a lot more to get now. The days of Spindletop, with the gushers and all that are gone. Ask anyone in the oil business. Oil is harder to find, and harder to get, as such, it is more expensive. Any business dealing with drilling or well servicing right now is booming. Geologists are scrambling to find new sites, servicing companies are bringing old capped wells back online, and drillers are making new holes. And they are raking in the cash. 50 brand spanking new refineries are going to do jack shit for gas prices with 100 dollar a barrel crude.
IF YOU THINK THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF GAS ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION "Have I been turned away from any place because they have no gasoline to sell?" I swear to god if it was actually happening the news would be all over it. Its not. There isn't a shortage, it just costs a metric fuck-ton to make. Simple as that.
