TTP had an open Teamspeak server for this exact purpose however, due to security concerns, especially the multiple hackings it received, the highs decided that the Teamspeak server would only be used for admins.

well isnt teamspeak for mostly verbal communication. IRC is just for chat rooms and can be accessed by everybody. There really isnt much fear of getting hacked since it would be hosted on some irc server, like gamesurge or some other thing like that. Also admins can ban people to their hearts content if theyre not following rules or linking infected stuff.

I'm against IRC for TTP from a philosophical standpoint. IRC is fleeting text and tends to have many flame wars. They then extinguish without any record. The discussions provide no lessons learned to others and provide no institutional memory for TTP. IRC is a contributing technology to what TTP fights every day - gamers that don't listen.
People don't seem to use IRC to communicate. Instead, they use it to speak. The elements of reading, contemplating what the other person is trying to communicate, and formulating an understanding reply, are missing from IRC. Instead, IRC is like a big commotion with everyone talking at once, and no one is listening.

the same can be said about internet gaming in general. then again you have the ttp gaming servers where there is order and peace in an otherwise unruly world. This has been accomplished by the admins weeding out the bad seeds and allowing the mature players to play peacefully. This can also be easily accomplished in an IRC channel.
To tell you the truth im just pushing this cuz im bored as hell at work 8 hours a day :8
