Are we heading for disaster?
Ok, to me it seems that every system in the government has started crumbling. The Public School System, Legal System, Tax System, Justice System, all of it. The bureaucracy is killing us, and the people don't realize it. So, what would it take for people to realize that things are screwed up? I think eventually something massive will happens, totally pissing the people off. Then a total reformation of the United States Government,
What do you think?

Re: Are we heading for disaster?
I used to be an Avid Ron Paul supporter. And one of my biggest questions was always: Why is everyone so blind? Why is America so ignorant of blah blah blah. I had a big revelation where I decided that people aren't as stupid as I thought.. And In fact stupidity is a relative term. *End Anecdote*
Its easy for you to say "(Insert Government Program here) is crumbling", but what proof do you have? What evidence? The fact is people aren't blind, they can (usually) see everything fine, and if it was as bad as the little chickens say it is then something would've been done about it by now. Although I will level with you that all it takes to sway public opinion sometimes is a big event to occur.
The best thing I learned about politics is that no one has the right answer, other wise it would be landslide elections every four years. There are some decisions that are just "better", being a relative word because it all depends on your perspective.
I guess my point is is that extremism is unamerican. If you are at a point in your life where you will automatically disregard other candidates/proposals/ideas/etc. based on anything such as "what you heard" isn't being responsible. There are always two sides to every issue, and we have to explore both of them to make the best decision.

Re: Are we heading for disaster?
Oh, but Texas can. Texas is THE only state that was a Republic. Texas is THE only state that can break away from the US and become our own Nation... Watch us.
We have the resources, ports, military, NASA, oil, ______________. We have it and we can do it.

Re: Are we heading for disaster?
IIRC, there aren't exactly 50 states in the united states of America. Something like 46 or 48 states with the rest being commonwealths.
Unfortunately, as much as i, a person who lives in illinois, south of I-80, would love to force Cook County (Chicago) to cede from the union, become its own country, and then have illinois declare war on it (and lets face it, The Nation of Chicago could probably hold its own still...), such an act would be a disaster for both parts of the state.
Likewise if Texas withdrew. There isn't a state/commonwealth in this union that isn't dependent upon another (state, country, or otherwise),so much so that i'd venture to say that no state can feasibly support its population (especially with current infrastructure)....well maybe Alaska.
In either case, i'd be interested to see what bureaucracy would be replaced with? Do we suppose that now we're ready, mature enough, for something along the lines of the Articles of Confederation?
This is not to say i'm not slightly worried/disappointed in the current state of things. But for all my optimism, i can't possible fathom the amount of teamwork it would take to get something other than what we've been used to for so long, to work.
