Re: Songs that Need to Go Away
dude consultant i was thinkin the same way
yesterday my english teacher was talkin bout psycadelic rock where the artists try to show there music as their senses get all intertwined(he spoke of ways they experimented but i wont get into that part)
anywayz music is an art form where the artist trys to show u how they feel
if u dont like the music or "how they feel" it dosent make it bad
it just means UR not on the same page as the artist.
so u shouldnt claim any form of music as bad
its just not u

I disagree. Some music is just crap. Take Ashlee Simpson singing on SNL or most of the stuff from Powdersoft Records. It's not that I don't like everything from Powdersoft; I actually really like Girls, Guns, and Glory even though I don't care for much country; it's just that a lot of that label is crap. In fact it's so crappy (How crappy is it Mr. White?) that it made me temporarily like a Fergie song. Yeah, put that one on the air in front of the music director and a writer of the station constitution.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

Re: Songs that Need to Go Away
This could go either way but ultimately.... dammit, I just typed out reasons for each sides and deleted them.
On one hand, if people like it and its making enough money to stay above water, then it doesnt really 'have to go'.
But on the other hand, some of this mindless crap is pushed onto the impressionable future of America as what they have to listen to and that I dont agree with.
I used to DJ in clubs and stopped doing so mainly because hip hop has just become an industry of these no names coming in talking about the same shit in each song (slappin bitches, making money, riddin on dubs, growin up on the streets) when theyre probably from some privileged, white-collar suburb of Connecticut. The sound is the same on all these unoriginal 'gangstas' trying to make a quick buck. Slow-paced beat with deep distorted bass thrown in with a monotone voice with no differentiation of the way he presents his lyrics (meaning its always bum - bum - bum - bum instead of switching it up every now and then). Hip hop mainly turned to crap right after 50 Cent dropped his first album. Stylists like Dre, Eminem, etc are far few and between now... The best you have is Timbaland, Usher, Chris Brown, but thats more pop than hip-hop.
Other songs I wouldnt lose sleep over if I never heard again are those handful of songs they play at bars that everybody sings along to like theyre classics. No theyre fun to sing along to because youre drunk. If you were sober, you wouldnt even pretend like you knew all the words, or put your arm around the guy next to you to tell him how much you love him. Such songs include:
Journey - Dont Stop Believing
ACDC - Shook Me
Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline (though Neil is fun to listen to)
Bon Jovi - Livin On A Prayer (this is #1 most annoying in my book)
Lynard Skynard - Sweet Home Alabama
Anything Jimmy Buffett (which doesnt say much since he only has 3 songs)
Garth Brooks - Friends In Low Places (even though I really like his music)
There are plenty more but luckily being almost a year out of the Rent-A-DJ scene, I have started to block them out of my mind.

Whoever said they want to keep kid rock because he plays insturments. GAH! Yes most rap sucks. But not every rap artists uses a beatbox or a computer. Snoop Dogg actually has a band. He raps and uses instruments. So your logic is flawed.
I agree though that most music today sucks. And the radio overplays everything. That's why I don't listen to FM. AM all the way. When I do listen to music it's usuall the oldies or the classic rock stations because I don't hear the same song repeated every other hour.
