ThePlanet's Houston data center explosion
While I don't believe the servers that TTP had/has with ThePlanet are located in the Hstntx1 data center, still pretty crazy....
From Doug Erwin:
This evening at 4:55pm CDT in our H1 data center, electrical gear shorted, creating an explosion and fire that knocked down three walls surrounding our electrical equipment room. Thankfully, no one was injured. In addition, no customer servers were damaged or lost.

Re: ThePlanet's Houston data center explosion
They said in the thread they had a transformer failure. Transformers are usually filled with nonconductive mineral oil for cooling and insulation; with a large short through the wrong bits, the oil cooks off until it bursts the casing, vaporizes and then ignites (with accompanying explosion). It's a very rare failure, though.
