Sad. I doubt I would get involved honestly.....

I would be too afraid that the guy would retain some goddamn lawyer and sue me. And there would be a line of them waiting to defend his rights. Too expensive to get involved. Its what the lawyers have done to our society. A departure from common sense and reliance upon rules drawn up in a vaccumm.

if you see a woman get a CRT monitor thrown at her head, and the lunatic that did it is still going on a rampage, AND you do nothing because you MIGHT get in trouble, then theres something wrong. If this is the way that people react then society really is screwed. And then theres a whole other argument I could bring in for this but that would involve religion and I dont care to debate about those types of things

True that on society being screwed.

Of course, where you live does affect your outlook. Northern Virginia, although retaining a fairly liberal (not leftist) stance on firearms, is not
Texas. I must leave my house rather than defend it.

I must call the police and retreat , or sit and lock my car doors, rather than physically defend myself from someone who blocks my car, gets out cussing at me, and attempts to grab my shirt. I know this from experience.

So yes, I agree that society is screwed.

Re: Do you ever look around your office .......

    One more story.

One late afternoon I was in an ACO hardware store in Ortonville, MI. Someone walked into the store and said that there was about to be a fight in the parking lot. I paid my bill and walked outside to see two teenagers, a male and female, arguing with a middle-aged dude. I walked over to see what was going on and try to help (the road to hell is paved with good intentions, right? )

It ends up the old dude was driving drunk as piss. The teenagers were behind him, and when he pulled into the ACO parking lot the boy took the keys out of the drunk's Jeep. Of course the drunk wanted them back, but the kid said he was going to keep them until the cops arrived, which he had already called on his cell.

Then the drunk dude made another mistake. He said, or slurred, that the kid's girlfriend was a whore. This little kid went apeshit on the drunk. He probably got in two or three good hits to the face before I knew what happened...and I was alert. The drunk never stood a chance. His face was bloodied. Not bloody nose kind of bloody, but busted lips, busted nose, fucked up and dripping kind of bloody. It was awesome. I told the kid that he had won and to please stop. If he went any further he could be charged with a crime. The kid obliged and cooled down.

Then the drunk, in a move of scammer brilliance, bent over and wiped his bloody face on my shirt while I was talking to the kid. There was blood all over my shirt. Then he yelled, "you got my blood on your shirt. I'm suing you for hitting me!" I thought WTF? It's a law school shirt. Did he honestly think he stood a chance? The dude then ran over to the main road and started hitchhiking. Suprisingly someone picked his bloody ass up. Probably a neighbor that recognized him (this is a fairly rural area).

When the cop arrived he took everyones' statements and the car keys, etc. The car was still in the ACO lot, so the drunk guy was fucked. The cop traced his plates, found his address, and sent another car to meet the drunk at home. The cop congratulated the kid for stopping the drunk driver but reminded him of the potential dangers. He also let the kid off the hook for stealing the keys absolutely beating the drunk's ass. I thought that was very cool of the cop. Gotta love country law.

Then the cop turned to me and asked me how I got the blood all over my shirt. I told him what happened and the kids backed up my story. Then the cop asked me why I didn't beat the durnk's ass as well. I told him that the drunk was a piece of shit and not worth my time. Ten the cop made me laugh. He said you've got more patience than me. I would have killed him.

    That's funny.

That event happened at the Meijer in Waterford, across the street from ABC Harley Davidson when it was still a dump.

Years after that event we had a house party with a bunch of lawyers. One of our guests was married to an extremely wealthy girl in the Detroit area. I was talking to the guy about other places that I had lived around Detroit and mentioned Waterford. His eyes lit up and he exclaimed, "Waterford! That place is scary. I stopped in the Meijer once and saw this scary dude that was so huge I couldn't believe it." The he flattened his hands and put his fingers on his cheeks and said, "This guy had a beard that started under his EYES!"

I know he and I saw the same dude.
